holy crap was it cold and windy. driving there it was a snow-storm. hitting the home stretch was like running into a wall.

the steeple pit was frozen over, so times out of the pit were significantly faster than more sane racing conditions.
I think Davin said it best on the way home... "If this is a preview to outdoor season this year, I'm not going"
PS. I briefly went to mirage last night. I got there at about 930 and they were starting a musical chairs contest in the middle of the dance floor (the prize was some used all season radial tires) and two chicks ended up duking it out for the prize... I have it on video. THAT PLACE IS AWESOME, although I was a little disappointed that I didn't see Dylan's sister there... I hear she's a regular.

Who's running what races, and how fast this weekend at the SFU "Invite."
**Disclaimer: Invite means that should you feel like participating, you are cordially invited to regardless of numbers of arms, legs, or mental capacity.** (So I'm Invited!)

Pretty sure you'll see our mid-distance guys evenly distributed between the 1500 and 800. Feens is running the 3000m.
How fast? No freakin' clue.

Oh shit, the heavens have exploded and mother nature has come through with a win. geez boyz, poor results at the UW meet. I heard a gangly sfu freshmen was being tip toed drafted by the one and only will stewart. Damn straight will, way to hold your nose behind him, i hear he passes a good spill of gas sometimes.
So, sfu invite eh? anyone throwing down some real good numbers. lets not see another one of those slow poke strategic 1500 m worthless race like last year. If you guys dont get it yet, but after you guys having plenty years of experience wearing those sissy pink diapers till university and leaving it all till the end of the race, just dont cut it anymore. Furthermore, its boring watching a pack of hungry barbarians and water down cockatoos get out beat in the first lap by their counterparts the women. WOW, anyone can run 72 seconds a first laper. illwill, dgant, alpha/beta, symmonds werent you all in that race.
Plus, who cares about a +4min/1500m runner. Hey, lets not leave it at that, come game day boyz, i formulat1 will be there to represent. ive entered the 1500m to show ya'all up. this is the day i best be seeing all of you donkey asses. Bring your A game or just dont bother showing up.

Before you guys go to far in to your infaturation with the open up there on the lonely mountain. Can anyone from UBC explain the 800m results from UW? Two almost identical 800 heats, in terrible weather...

They're more than almost identical... have a closer look...
formulat1... since you plan to grace us with your witty presence tomorrow, you better be going sub-4, otherwise i'll start to worry about you. wouldn't want you going around with low self-esteem, that shit's not healthy.
by the way, if you could be oh so kind as to come on over and cordially introduce yourself to the team tomorrow, i would be much obliged. and perhaps you would have no aversion to a "gentlemanly match of roshambo"? (following in the tradition of j. symmonds)

i don't get it, how are they more than almost identical, frenchie? they look freakishly similar, but they're are clearly a couple different times by .01 or .03 of a second -which suggests someone didn't just apply the heat 1 times to heat 2 or vice versa, and they're a variety of schools and people in both heats.
what exactly are we looking for here?

Damn, phoenixvic has out-Poindextered me yet again... and there I was thinking I was being clever with a good eye...
But yeah apparently the timing system was just messed, though I don't know exactly how or why... Pretty obvious though. Not only are the chances of the two heats coinciding so closely next to zero, the chances of Shane Mc running faster than Nige, Davin, and Carlos actually are zero... (at least for the next two years or so) Also, apparently the placings in the second heat aren't right either. Weird.

well, an unpleasant day on the hill yesterday; not only cause I had to see frenchie in what i considered my "safe zone" (burnaby mountain), but the weather was pretty chilly. It actually snowed briefly while i was struggling to regain consciousness after my 800... i think. Some decent times though, and a bunch of us should have scrapped the rust off our legs. So, now we can forget about that horrible 4x8 practice debacle and focus on more important things: the RALPH VERNACCHIA INVITE!
It's time to start peaking boys, the big show is here. you may think i am kidding, and in a way i am. but, there's more on the line here than just standards boys. With my vince macmahonian powers, I am setting up two title shots this saturday at the RALPH VERNACCHIA INVITE, so the whole world can watch it. Two belts (only one of which you are eligible for UBC, losers) will be on the line... first, the inter-squad-inental relay championship is happening amongst the good guys at SFU, with fans and critics everywhere believing this may be the year that the distance crew can tear the W out of the sprint squads hands and dance a happy dance of victory around them while they cry about losing their precious title. Secondly, revenge is coming, and in a bad way. that is of course, if ubc accepts the challenge and slaps together whatever kind of a rag-tag 4x4 team they have to put their belt on the line and dual it out with sfu for the title of "winner-of-the-last-relay-race-in-which-we-raced-against-each-other" - that's right boys, the stanley cup of track - this saturday, in bellingham, at the RALPH VERNACCHIA INVITE!

Okay, so substitute all the "Saturdays" in phoenix's rambling post with "Fridays". Done.
4x400m should be exciting though. I imagine the chirping at practice will increase exponentially over the next 5 days.

i can ride my bike with no handlebars, no handlebars.... anyways. (sorry that songs been stuck in my head for a week).
i have to admit, i was mildly appreciative of the SFU boys distance programs effort in their conquest to beat those sprinter dicks in a 4x4... "arrrright"
i was pretty subdued watching your dual during the race and missed the final outcome.... who actually won that race though, like the whole race, not just your intra-team rivalry?

I don't know, but whoever it was, they were the ugliest bunch of 400 runners I've ever seen.
In all honesty, I didn't know (or care) who actually won the race till right now.

Davin is a f*cking beast. More to come from that guy this season, he definitely had more in the tank when he crossed that line.
Panzy-Gant and that Newfie kid impressed for sure, those were huge races.
Women's side: Ruki gets A-standard in the Long Jump... or so was the word at dinner. sick.

Dual meet's in less than two weeks.
UBC Guys win, SFU Girls win.
Close overall. Right now: D-Gant - 1st in NAIA Steepes - 9:08 D-MacK - 1st in NAIA 800m - 1:52 Fawn - 1st in marathon Ruki - 1st in Long and High Jump Megan Huzzey - 1st in Racewalk Mason - hasn't opened up Tons of athletes from both schools top 3 individually, as well as some relays from the SFU women. Not too bad a month out from NAIAs.

Ruky got Olympic "A" standard and the Canadian record with her 6.72. Thats far.
Respect to Will for what had to be a grueling weekend. You should have just enough time to recover and be ready for nationals.
And you're going to win the Dual meet 'cuz we have no throwers. Take that out of the equation and its at least close.

of note too, according to primeau, she got the facility record with that leap... which sometimes doesn't matter but it was previously held by Jackie Joyner-Kersee... I've heard that name before.
i can't wait for the 4x8 at dual meet though. it's gonna be siiiick. i even started doing strides after my mile repeats and steady state workouts. just kidding, i'm slower than gant in the two lap. but our 4 can beat your 4... send it.

is there a 4x8 at dual meet? we've been talking about this and for some reason came to the consensus that there wasn't one this year, be dope if there was though.

whats going on here? day before the dual meet and this thread's on page 2. i gotta be honest, my faith in the youngsters to carry this thread next year is dwindling. the prospect pool looking shallow. perhaps we can just chalk the silence up to sfu' pre determined dominance of tomorrow's festivities, at least those on the red rubber of minoru park. we're leaving the fans with a couple of question marks - mainly, can our marathon man unleash on the javelin? can the twins velcro up their old high-tops and go after that SFU high jump record? can sfu pull of the 6 relay sweep?

Hey I hear from the big man there's going to be a big fight today, post-meet parking lot brawl, eh?
Sounds classic, but in all seriousness, I'd just like to remind all brawlers that we're only allowing brass knuckles and broken bottles this year and we're doing away with things such as lead pipes, bats, and chains, since there were too many leg injuries last year and some people felt it affected their training.

How 'bout golf clubs? Apparently they're in vogue right now with the "let's start shit outside a bar for no reason" crowd.
Ups to our resident Newfie. 1:55 + stealing 30 beer + breaking a guys fist with his nose = Bad ass.
As for the Dual Meet, it went down pretty much as Will predicted. If we could have taken the "field" out of "track & field" we might have had a chance.
Pretty solid 4x100 and 4x400 on the men's side, by far the most exciting races of the evening.

Top 5 finishes for both genders is not out of the realm of possibility.
It'll for sure be harder for the guys (for various reasons...) but it's the strongest team we've sent down in ages.
Is your 4x8 going?
