So there's like 10 feet of snow at my house right now, and its still coming down. Okay maybe 10ft is a little hyperbolic, but this is freakin' ridiculous. Big need for a winter training camp somewhere sunny and warm.
And no smart ass comments from any knuckle-heads from the interior or east of the Rockies about how this weather ain't that bad, blah blah blah. This is a lot of snow and I'm gonna bitch about it.

Even being from Ontario, I would have to agree that this is a lot of snow. I'm beginning to question all these stories I heard about Vancouver getting a lot of rain and very little snow. I was hoping to have left winter as I knew it behind.

And no smart ass comments from any knuckle-heads from the interior or east of the Rockies about how this weather ain't that bad, blah blah blah.... hahaha.... Well, let me tell you... back in good ol' SA, where the ground is covered with 329108715 feet of snow, and every road and trail is uphill both ways, and it's - 32 1/2 every day, and everyone has a snowplow on their truck and a massive winch, and everyone digs snow tunnels from their front doors to their garages.... they would call thisn' here a mild September day....

That being said... I would be lying if I said I wasn't at least a little bit glad that I have a legit excuse to not come to the track this evening...
If there was ever a time to have a short-term injury... it's now.

Two straight snow days for SFU. With a little luck, I won't have to go to class at all this week.

With apparent bomb threats and gunmen illusively hanging around UBC, we may not be going to class either.

With apparent bomb threats and gunmen illusively hanging around UBC, we may not be going to class either. How crazy was that? What was the mood/atmosphere on campus during that whole scenario? Insane.

It wasn't as crazy as you might think it was. No one got hurt, but the police figured the threat (I think it was an email threat) was legit-looking enough to warrant the full-scale intervention.
That was the largest crowd of people on the corner of University and Main Mall I've ever seen. Pretty much everyone who wasn't in class right then was swarming around the police tape trying to figure wtf was going on.
The rumour mill was pretty hot too, I heard it was gunmen, I heard it was a bomb threat, I heard it was a student who lost it and got suicidal... I don't think the situation really sank in on people in general that fast, because it was about as unexpected as could be. Wise guys left and right were going "K later bud, I'm off the the biomed building to bag me some criminals.", quips of that nature.
Anyway that's the perspective of a campus-fringe dweller such as myself. I'm sure someone who was in the building while it was locked down would have a lot more to say... that must've been a shitty experience.

I was supposed to be in BioSci that afternoon but was too busy hitting on girls at starbucks to notice the commotion, and to be fair, starbucks is a pretty long way from that building
The moral of the story is, don't go to class... ever, because if you do, you might get put on lockdown for 6 hours because of an email threat the info@ubc.ca.
Some kids who were locked down said it was "pretty fucked"... more updates coming soon... er no.

The thread seems to need a little relevant content... So for those who wish to follow SFU's latest indoor achievements (I know all you UBCers are just itching to catch a glimpse of our sheer brilliance on the track and see what you're up against in a few months), the videos can be found here: www.flocasts.org/flotrack/coverage.php?c=169&id=8289The results are here for those care to see them: gohuskies.cstv.com/sports/c-track/stats/2007-2008/finalresults.htmlLooks like a lot of standards were met on the weekend. Congrats to dgant for a second consecutive PB in the 3k, and the DMR team for a fine showing as well.

Thanks guys. BC represented pretty well in that 3k, with Kiauka and Jackson going 1-2...... listen to the commentary of that race and count how many times they screw up Eric's name in the last 1000m of the race.
And big props to our battalion of 1000m runners, male and female, who rose with the sun Saturday morning and proceeded to obliterate qualifying times. This bodes well for Johnson City, as there is a direct positive correlation between the number of bodies at Nationals and the rowdiness factor of the after-party.

Same as always.
Reading break starting this weekend (and a Dempsey meet this Sat/Sun) so I have no clue what turnout will be like these next two weekends.
There was still friggin' snow on the Beaver Track last saturday, but by now it should be sweet as aye.

I figure last weeks cancellation of classes due to the "blizzard" that hit Burnaby Mountain was mother nature's way of telling SFU admins. that we should have a reading break. That being said, the lack of a reading break + Mt. SAC's slightly later date this year = exams being finished before going to Cali. Not that I ever studied down there anyway, but at least this year there won't be any guilt either.

Have to publicly give some big ups to my boys for their performances on the weekend. A-Boss, our 600m crew, Alpha and Beta, and of course the Express..... not only did our resident steam engine drop a 1:52.62, ripping 3+ seconds off his PB, he also made every female in the vicinity of the finish line swoon with his Alan Webb-like arm flexing celebration. It was truly a sight to behold.

Wow.
That is massive.
Just out of curiosity... how fast do you have to go before arm-flexing across the finish line is justified? How fast for the arm-flex/scream-then-drop-to-your-knees-and-smash-the-ground-with-your-fists combo?
I think these are important questions that all serious runners should know the answers to.

Just out of curiosity... how fast do you have to go before arm-flexing across the finish line is justified? Apparently, 1:52.65 for 800, or equivalent. How fast for the arm-flex/scream-then-drop-to-your-knees-and-smash-the-ground-with-your-fists combo? 3:33.78 1500m or equivalent, or after a win at a major championship.

Phew, thank heavens. Thanks for clearing that up. To tell you the truth, I was getting pretty worried, what with racing season coming up and all. To flex, or not to flex? That was really confusing; I'm glad that's all sorted out now.
