i can only think of a couple people from ubc/sfu in the past several years who would have a sincere shot at this. they are as follows:
Ken Myers - just a crazy son of a bitch, lots of legendary drunk stories from this guy, like sleeping out in the rain on his back porch after a night at the bar or something similar
Byron Wood - he could pound the miles and the beers, 'the kind of athlete a coach gets once in a lifetime'
Nick Elson- the running 100 miles would be the hard part for him, also the proud holder of a 609 beer mile time. beastly

I believe Bryon would hit that mileage for sure during an attempt of this 100/100 due to the fact that the drunker he gets the more illegal activities he finds himself in, which in turn, he must run away from in order to survive. (Both in life, and in the 100/100 competition)
The determinant of success here, I believe, isn't the mileage or the beer drinking but rather the Law Enforcement in the area Byron chooses to attempt this 100/100. If he chooses downtown Vancouver as the site to attempt this feat his 'record' is looking pretty good... but with such debauchery required to run 100 miles in a week I figure he would get into enough trouble to fall slightly short of this feat.

will, please stop...bryon could not in any attempt hit the mark for 100/100. He would fall short the moment he tried to attempt anything. also, where did we go from banter to running 100 miles drinking the beers.
i believe the thing that determines success for any known runner is discipline and hard work. Thats why i know dgant's philosphy is a success becasue its all about em miles. running 1 mile a day will secure your top spot at the shitters list.
Oh...and tovers if you are reading this thread...be very afraid. Four weeks is up so you will soon see me race walking my asss up the hill to beat you down. Be afraid tovers...be very afraid.

The drinking prowess of those hailing from the Okanagan has been well noted... their running prowess... well, maybe not so much... however, I see no reason why MrSymonds couldn't pull off 100 & 100 in 7 days.

I hope that was a trolling attempt to get him to post Frenchie.

try this. there is an alumni of the running club here at edinburgh university who is an absolute legend. it all began at the Isle of Man Easter Running Festival, which includes three days of racing and drinking... but I'll leave the history lesson in the hands of one who was there... From our club (the haries) forum: "As a harie on the isle of man 25 years ago, YP managed to run 100 miles, while drinking 107 pints in 100 hours, probally the world all time greatest feat of endurance, beats climbing everest north face without oxygen if you ask me. so to help celebrate the greatest ever acivement by and Edinburgh university hare and hounds athlete i think we should all mark the occasion in the isle of man 2008 with a mass club attempt at a triple 25 ( 25 miles, 25 beers, in 25 hours)." haries.eusu.ed.ac.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=525

Afraid of what exactly formulat1..you've already claimed to be a racewalker which just makes me laugh, then you rag on the 100/100 which is clearly a respectable feat by any standard, and lets be honest..if you really are a racewalker, you only weigh in at 125lbs max..so im not sure what your definition of a "beat down" is, but im starting to worry that it has nothing to do with fighting..And you might wanna start walking now, the snow could slow ya down a bit.

Yeah, and it'll probably prove to be a fruitless attempt... but for a worthy cause nonetheless.
And just so everyone knows, Calgary scored 9 goals last night in the rematch of '04's game 7. Iggy 3 goals in the 3rd, Huselius 3 goals, Phaneuf 5 assists.

tovers, you are afraid that my racewalk beats your sprint. For shits n giggles, i might just come up to the hill tomorrow, maybe join your sprint practice. I could use a good warm-up...then maybe head back to my neck of the woods for some real good training.

a combination of symmond's neck breaking running style in combination with having to throw back the beers would surely lead to a serious neck injury...i say cramping at 70.....maybe 75....besides as with jeff...he'd drink too quick too early and leave little left of the last 50 beers/miles.... ;D The drinking prowess of those hailing from the Okanagan has been well noted... their running prowess... well, maybe not so much... however, I see no reason why MrSymonds couldn't pull off 100 & 100 in 7 days.

i bet a beer 10k would be take marginally longer than just pounding 25 beers straight up... that sounds like quite a solid afternoons event. 400 metres of mondo, 25 beers on ice, hibachi barbeque, the flesh of slaughtered animals.... delicious

I'm sure this is completely off-topic ...
Does anyone which model of racing short is part of the current (2004-2006 at least) SFU uniform?

Thats why we're so fast... less time spent running = less embarassment. I think the shorts are part of adidas' climacool line.

The 2004-2006 shorts I don't think are available anymore, and the ones that would match the new singlets are from the Adidas Team series. If you search for "Adidas track shorts" you'll find them.

All this surfing and playing of beach volleyball is doing wonders for my endurance.
I ran 20 full minutes yesterday without stopping.

I'd post a link to results, but they definitely messed them up for the 1500 at the tail end. I ran a pretty uninspired 4:25-4:26, but it was fun nevertheless. It was a good reminder as to how short 1500m is. We'll see what I think of 3000m in a couple of weeks.

Glad to hear they screwed up the results from that 1500... Feens, when I saw the results, I was shocked. I figured you must have fallen 3 times. As for the beer mile.... Will, you name the time and place, I'll try and convince the goofs from SFU to show up. Given that most of our male rookies are borderline alcoholics, it shouldn't be a problem.

With a few solid drinking nights under my belt since getting back and 400 repeats off two minutes tonight... i'm almost back to my old beer mile shape (almost).
Good luck to everyone this weekend, I sure a f*ck won't be there... but kudos to those fit enough to be.
