bubs, if you actually looked at last years thread closely (and its been established you're a tosser and have the time to do so), you'd see that we hit page 12 on Oct. 29th. This year, we reached that bench mark on Oct. 30th. So we're not behind at all. This will hit 30+ pages, just give it time.
(I realize the above shows that I to am a massive tool with too much time on my hands, but at least I can admit it; and I don't troll on random threads posting dick-head comments)
PS, we beat UVic at the Evergreen Invite. I don't want to hear excuses about them missing two of their top runners either.

good luck this weekend birds, i hate to say it but you may need it.
looking back i regret establishing the jobber barrier at 28 minutes...at the time it seemed the polite and decent thing to do, however it seems that most of the t-birds have grown complacent with this and trained just enough to be a safe distance out of jobber country(see times of runners 2-7 all of this year). So, in hopes of improving UBC this year and in years to come I propose an upgrade of the jobber barrier to 27 minutes flat for 8k. I realize there may be a bit of a backlash as runners who felt they were above being classified as jobbers no longer have that safety net, but this may be the best thing for us all.
Let me conclude by saying that I hope the top 5 scorers for UBC return on Sunday(or whenever) with their heads held high knowing that they are not jobbers, but if this isn't the case, fear not, there is something you can do to prevent this from happening in the future...its called running more. Good luck and god-speed.

That's exactly the deal I've had with Yi Han all year. But instead of the jobber status it's the Big Mac status... if he goes under 27 he gets a Big Mac from this guy. Similar deals have been cut with most teammates and motivation has never been better. Take that sports psych and its notion of intrinsic motivation.
We're making nationals for sure.

haven't seen any results, but the word from our equipment room is that the sfu women won as expected - though i don't think continued and expected success should take away from the glory they deserve. The men however, ranked 5th going into the race today, apparently decided to all get their shit together this time, as they also took the regional title and secured a trip to nationals. The individuals I heard of thus far are Gant in 2nd overall, wambui pulling up behind him in third, and brockerville in 5th. I apologize if any of this information is incorrect. We are still awaiting the biggest news of the day, which is weather will, or any other member of the ubc team, was able to crack the sfu top 5 - a sport not entirely separate from cross country known as "twin hunting".

congrats to SFU, good job members of both persuasions.
today is yet another example of how underrated our mens teams are... every year.
SFU goes in ranked 5th - wins, UBC goes in 7th - comes 6th ... without top two scorers as mals hurt himself skateboarding before Saturday workout (not even kidding) and apparently I'm more anemic than an anorexic teenage girl on her period.
Dylan, i wasn't trying to be a dick today. some froshomerees told me you won. "I knew you could do it" meant 1st not 2nd. . . get that Hantau dick in Wisc.

Equipment room gossip is frighteningly accurate. The women stomped the field, sweeping the top 3 spots, and the men did indeed pull a rather large upset and take the win. Going in I figured, if we ran well, we'd come at least third, and possibly second. I didn't really think we'd win the damn thing. Pretty sweet. Big props to Beta Twin, aka Seth Fraser, who picked today to drop his first sub-26min race. Full men's results here: naia.cstv.com/sports/m-xc/spec-rel/110307aas.htmlWomen's results here: naia.cstv.com/sports/w-xc/spec-rel/110307aam.htmlWill, I know you weren't being a dick, a few froshmores on my own team thought I'd won as well. Head up, get better, and tell Mals that not to do stupid extreme sports a week out from Regionals.

...and looking at the men's results... i'm sad to say it but an uninjured mals and a non-anemic will wouldn't have garnered us any more places, not with that kind of point gap.
i think erik bean (who happened to be the only guy on the team who actually ran better than 3 weeks ago) summed it up pretty good at the end of the awards ceremony: "Let's get the fuck out of here."

a great performance by all sfuer's. unfortunately it was overshadowed on the same day by the single greatest athletic feat burnaby mountain has ever witnessed. don't let the stolen headlines get you down though, great runs ladies and gents.

I know THE RIVALRY is over, at least till the new year, but we have a duty to keep this thread alive with irrelevant yet witty banter. We are the only real defense against this forum being totally over-run with offsa talk, and I hate that acronym with a passion.
And the only event that can once again truly alight this thread with the inane smack-talk and childish insults we are infamous for is the oft discussed but never held UBC/SFU Beer Mile Challenge. If athletes from our respective institutions of higher learning are willing to partake in what will surely be an epic battle, stand up and be counted. Seriously, let's finally have at this, it'd be freakin' sweet.
And the athletic feat phoenix is referring to above truly was great. He actually won a game of pickup basketball.

Ambition is getting the best of me. After such a feat of glory last saturday i motion for us to win nationals. Our team needs to drop 25:30's and victory will be ours.
It could happen, otherwords let's get 4th place. I want a plaque.

Gotta disagree with you here Twin. 3rd and 4th may be the same shit, just a different pile, and 2nd is the first loser, but National Champs is a title worth bragging about. Besides, 1st place plaques are bigger than 4th place plaques, and you get a banner, so 1st place is aesthetically superior anyway.

Oh so this is what happens when one team from the sfu/ubc rivalry doesn't make it to the dance... the thread turns into a rah-rah cheering thread for the team left standing.
But allow me to remind all readers of an even larger event on tap for The Rivalry after the Clan's foray at nationals... I am talking about the Beer Mile, of course.
I want this to be a big deal this year... I'm talking betting, big-time smack, the dirt on pregame favourites, the works. I still stand by the Taxi Driver (who seems to have mysteriously disappeared... to whistler mountain to work on his drinking game, among other things) to pull off a major upset.
But anyway, that's in a few weeks. In the meantime, rip it up at naia's, Clan.

oh and dill, it was four games of pick up basketball. but i mean, it was like jordan and bugs vs. the Mon-Stars. Sure, you could say I had the advantage of being paired with bugs bunny, but the two dudes had at least 4 vertical inches on each of us.
hops - all you needs baby- good for basketball, good for beer.
Go tell me who wanna tangle with the ghetto witch-doctor neighborhood superhero?

I guess any alumni can compete, except for Symonds, simply because he's too good.

I think I hate beer miles. Slaming back beers as fast as possible is just such a painful thing to do, but if this beer mile actually happens, I'm still in. I gotta make sure Dylan keeps up his second place finishings, its becoming a tradition of sorts.
And good luck to SFU in Wisconsin, you guys are no longer just fighting UBC but will be the only canadian men's team representing, so make us all proud. Just remember the look of pure grit and determination of that 85 year old woman that Mitch Cully outkicked. Hey, if you can dig that deep than you guys will do just fine.

Worst... battle cry.... ever.
Atleast to me, it is inherently obvious that there is pretty much a zero percent chance that this beer mile is happening by the end of this calendar year.
1. NAIAs are this weekend 2. Canadians are two weeks later. 3. There is something called exams that happen sometime after the two
I propose some time in January (after the 11th as I'm getting a tan until then) because let's face it, only losers to work in January.
