Good to see Mo Ahmed is still holding strong. Rest of the results kinda weird though.

what exactly was weird about them? Places really all over from where they were last year. I guess you can chalk it up to development - Ikram way down there, for instance.

The finishing time in the junior boys race was 1:12 faster than last year. Only some of that can be explained by better conditions. I think Canada is developing some good runners. It was interesting reading the article by Chris Moulton on Eric Dillion. Eric said regarding his experience at World Youth in Italy that talking to the Africans really opened his eyes to the next level of training required. I think Athletics Canada could do everyone a real service by having a site outlining training regimens of different levels of athletes. I know they help develope coaches, but just having as much info as possible in general circulation would be beneficial.

I'll agree they were different from last year, but by no means were they strange based on how this years results have gone. For example, the Ikrams have had a down year (based on OUA results) and a guy like Wyatt Baiton, who was 2Xth last year has clearly improved loads. Same with Haight. I don't think anyone in that top ten was really a surprise.

... I know they help develope coaches, Please expand on this. Right. To my knowledge, AC only helps to run the certification program for coaches, including matching them with mentors, etc. It does not really develop coaches, per se. As for getting them to provide info about how athletes actually train, I suppose they have it in the form of carded athlete's yearly training plans, but I don't think they would see providing it to the general sport community as part of their mandate, right or wrong. The best way to get this info is to directly ask some top athletes and coaches. You'd be surprised how open and helpful they can be. That's just the way things are in running. The sport itself is so humbling that most people in it, even the best, are actually pretty... humble.

How about the effort of Jason Dunkerly in the senior mens race. It's one thing to run on a track or road which is flat, but to run a cross country race is truly amazing.
Way to go Jay!

Marilyn Arsenault finished 7th in the Great Australian Run (15 k.) in Melbourne on Sunday, running splits of 17:43, 35:50, and finishing in 53:39. Marilyn was the B.C. Cross Country Champion in late October, and was just ahead of Natasha Wodak, who was 7th in Guelph, so my call of top 6 to 8 contender seems to be close. And I did also predict that Whitfield was in top 10 shape, but not top 5. Good running for the Speed River guys. Congratulations to Kendra and Simon for their excellent wins... I wonder if we will have teams in the Senior ranks. I still wonder if there is any chance that the Americans would allow a few guest competitors in their Cross Country Championships in February.
