Also, the Raider Open course is horribly slow. It's 4 loops on flat ground with nothing but soft damp grass. Maybe my understanding of what constitutes a fast or slow course is off the mark, but it seems to me that a flat, looped course sounds ideal for brisk times. That's why tracks are set up the way they are. And again, I am almost 100% certain that dampness if determined primarily by the weather, not by the race co-ordinators. Now this one I agree with. The single most important factor when considering the difficulty of a course is how interesting the scenery is. I know most world records are set on fascinating, visually stimulating courses, ones including Ferris wheels, rope bridges, tunnels, ziplines, wildlife, and clowns. Sometimes I watch TV during workouts just to go faster.

I heard El Guerrouj had photographic memory and could replay entire movies in his head while he raced, thus the speed. What would be the point of him replaying movies in his head. The longest race he ran was the 5000m, under 13 mins, so unless he was watching short films in his head theres no point.

As for the chocolate bar cda is right, a snack always goes well with a movie.

Does anyone have results from Algonquin Baron's XC Race from North Bay? Grades 4 to senior/open www.mroberge.com/nordic/nordic_2009_results.htmFor those who've run this course, conditions were unusually dry. However, the footing was difficult on the 2km downhill stretch due random patches of light and shade on the trail. Ross Proudfoot and Jeremy Cooper ran fantastic in SB as did last year's OTFA bantam champion Graham Hansel in MB.
