4:00 1500 = 1:57.22 800 on the Mercer tables. BC's strength is in the male 800m right now with Travis, Riva, Ellenswood, Neal, Keane and Bill all having run under this time. 3 of those guys are Gr 11.
BTW Sean Kean went a very credible 4:26 in the mile in Snohomish, but that only got him 11th. Washington has great depth there. BC had 4 guys in the top 10 in the 800m in Snohomish.
A girl in Snohomish from Washington went 10:36 in the 2 mile and 2:13 in the 800m. She ran 4:40 earlier this year for the mile.

Coward, Kent never mentioned his son when pointing out that there will be any number of kids running those times and faster this season. It is one of the most competitive events this year. Don't read to much into the Mercer table either. The way you come at him is very interesting. He started the thread to create interest in this years BC's not one or two events, moron. Get over it.
In fact he doesn't mention Justin much at anytime. He might post his times but he does that for all of us. Your problem is personal and I am sure he is laughing at the thought of pissing you off, even if just a little. I am sure his rough edge is only so the thread continues to be front and centre. Get it! Don't read much beyond that.

scotty, can you please explain why every time trial your small training group runs is so interesting, but the returning champion getting beat by a lesser-known athlete is not?
on a side note - who is this keffri neal? who does he run for, what's his background, etc. i've never really heard of him....

scott, you really are a tool. You have this image built up in your mind that justin is some unbeatable force. You also make it seem like any result from any other athlete is just a waste of your time to read. How about you either contribute something useful to this site or get off it and quit embarrassing your son. There are a lot of people now who want him to do poorly just so it might shut you up for a while. I know I do and I have nothing against justin, hell, i don't even know the guy. On another note I think that a 1:56 still isn't too bad a time, especially because it is still mid april. Travis should be in good shape to take the 800 again this year. Haha so true!

If I'm not mistaken Keffri is running (or was) for Surrey Athletics. He was a natural talent in cross-country as a grade 8 at Fleetwood Park and I think then joined Surrey Athletics and has had mixed success but lately seems to be progressing well, especially with that great run in Snohomish.
Then again I could be all wrong.

Interesting Results from Snohomish: 800 Meters - Varsity - Finals 1 Todd Jackson 1:55.53a ELMA 11 2 Keffri Neal 1:55.84a SAC 11 3 Travis Vugteveen 1:56.34a Abbo 12 4 Kane Thomas 1:57.65a SWOD 12 5 Nathan Power 1:57.96a BURL 12 6 Kevin LeMond 1:58.30a ISSA 12 7 Miles Hille 1:59.11a REDM 11 8 Simon Bill 1:59.59a HHAC 12 9 Nicholas Schippers 1:59.86a KING 11 10 Sean Keane 2:00.13a WRC 11 K I've been trying to stay out of this thread too much but since I don't want to study for exams I'll put my two cents in on a couple of things related to this race. A) Congrats to Keffri and Travis on having some very solid results this early in the year. For the sake of what certainly will be great competition at BC High Schools I hope they keep this up! B) A little disappointed to not see Simon and Sean down in the 157-158 range because they are certainly capable of it (in my mind at least). C) These are way too early to really contribute much substance for predictions for BCHS in June. It's great to see Keffri and Travis run that well early on and if they can keep that fitness through to BCHS it should be exciting but it does make me think - is it a little too fast, a little too soon? Back in the day I remember watching Dan Mallie run only 2:01 in early May before running a 1:52 at BCHS. Which should give hope to the Simon and Sean supporters out there, and may raise a few questions on how Travis and Keffri will progress as we approach June. Then again one example of one guy who ran slow early on and then tore it up at BCHS is hardly something to judge everyone against. (Although come to think of it didn't Luc Bruchet start off slow last year too? Pattern - maybe? Conclusive - hardly?) Wow and I meant to keep that brief...

Just for the record, I have had Keffri in my top 5 all season. He is very talented and has been progressing nicely. He trains under Brian Onstead at Surrey Athletics and should not be a surprise to anyone that he is running well.
Secco is also running impressively.

Good points, but im my mind Vugataveen is capable of 1:51-52 so 1:56 isn't really fast enough to call "too fast" for this point. He's probably a month or so ahead of where he was last year, but I see that as logical progression.

Fair enough and yes I have to admit saying it's "too fast" at this point in the season is hard to say. Have we seen him race already yet or was this his opener? If he has opened already it would be nice to see how it's progressed although the first 2 races of the season are often (for some that is) just about getting back into the feel of things and your head into racing.
It would be great to see Travis go under 1:51 this year and maybe take down Sharpf's record at BCHS of 1:50.70 but he's starting to get into the area of tough progression. Mind you I haven't seen him race enough but I get the feeling he's not at the point where he's plateaued. Is he graduating? Anyone know where he's headed next year? Maybe TWU with it's new team and Sue as the coach there maybe he's considering it? Pure unfounded speculation...

I believe he ran 1:54-high indoors, then another 1:56 at SFU. So he is racing alot. He is coming off the Athletics Canada Phoenix training camp I believe, which may be a reason for the minor slowing in times.

Last year at this meet, Travis ran 1:59.5 and Keffri 2:02. They improved 6 and 5 seconds each from this meet until later in summer (1:53 and 1:57), so they could get fast this year. Keffri's opener I believe and Travis's 2nd.

I'm curious who you guys think will win the Decathlon and Heptathlon. I think Jared will win dec, but I'm not sure who will medal with him. For Hep I predict Zarria Storm.

Your rankings look quite good. One thing you have not factored in... is the NOW. Nothing ever stays the same. The scene has changed. You need to do a little more digging and your predictions WILL change. Or you can just wait until BCA puts up their 2010 results.

Sjoberg over Reid? I dno about that. Katie Reid opened up in 55 in california a few weeks back and I think she is only gonna get faster. Also I think Chris Sutherland might take the 200, I saw him race at the SFU open a few weeks back and he pulled out like a 22.5 and that was 20 mins after running the 400. Looked pretty solid

You must be smoking crack to pick Sjoberg over Reid. Katie ran 54.8 last summer and was on the world youth team. She's got way more experience than the young semi runner. Katie Ried is going to run 52 mid this year

Katie is a very fast talented athlete 54.8 is a great PB and i believe she will definitely beat that this year and maybe crack 54 to hit somewhere in the 53's but lets get real 52 is elite level almost professional level stuff. you had to have been exaggerating just a tad

Katie Ried is going to run 52 mid this year Watch out for Sjoberg. She is very talented and has trained well this year. Girls at her age are still improving. As they get older, it is difficult to improve. We'll see if Katie beats 54.8 this year. You are right. She is ineperienced. Last year she ran some bad tactical races. I'm not sure who is coaching her, but in her 2nd year she should be dynamic.

Hey, I was browsing athletics.net and Sean Keane ran a 4:03 this past weekend. That puts him in the mix for the 1500m title this season.

Hey, I was browsing athletics.net and Sean Keane ran a 4:03 this past weekend. That puts him in the mix for the 1500m title this season. I saw him run last summer and he should defs be in the title hunt. I witnessed him do a speed workout earlier this season and he did 3 back to back 400s in 55 so his speed will definately help him if it comes down to a sprint with Gravel

Hey For the 400m, I just saw one 16 year old kid absolutely destroy Sutherland at the Valley Royals Invitational. I have no idea where he came from but he beat Sutherland and Keefer Joyce by more than 2 seconds. I think his name is on the valley royals results or something but there's a lot of new blood coming out that are gonna do well come Provincials

From the looks of it, he's going to be a real contender come June. Also, I've heard that Ben Ayesu changed schools, so he is not eligible to run this year. This definitely leaves things open but I'm not sure who will take it
