I see no H2H thread this year, which makes me think the big names are out. Is anyone still running this event at all or will beaver buzz finally take the win?

Sponsored team won. Some victory when you don't even know your fellow teammates. Nice to see the Running Room BUY a victory out there on the roads of H2H Saturday. More impressive runs by Kajaks, Lionsgate and Beaverbuzz who actually used teammates and friends.

More impressive runs by Kajaks, Lionsgate and Beaverbuzz who actually used teammates and friends. Oh sorry, someone forgot to tell us the rule that all runners on an open team had to be from the same club. I thought the idea of the open competition was to put in a fast team to win. Silly us. Sounds like someone is a sore loser. But for the record, 5 of the athletes on our open team were either sponsored athletes or employees. 2 guys were very late additions because of 2 last minute pull outs by employee Ryan McKenzie and sponsored athlete Benard Onsare. Travis Cummings ran for us at K100 relay so hardly an unknown face to Running Room teams there... Our corporate team had 5 employees, 2 sponsored athletes and a runner from one of our sponsors. Great job to all teams that competed out there. VFac always impresses me with their teams and how friendly they are out there. They have to be one of the top road running clubs in Vancouver for sure. It's too bad our corporate team didn't start at the same time as the Frontrunners crew as that would have been a fun battle. It was great battle between us and the Kajaks guys who all ran very tough. The lead changed hands 4 times and in the end only 4mins separated us. Very exciting to be a part of and you can bet if we had lost we wouldn't be on here spouting about how one team had their top guy run twice so they could try and close the gap and taking a short cut up the hill on leg #3...

SNAP!
If it means that much to the Kajaks guys I'll mail my watches and gift certificate out to you, I'm keeping the mug though. Just being out in beautiful Harrison and having fun racing and socializing with my friends and teammates was enough for me.

It was a good battle from start to finish. leg 6 was our weak point and we paid for it. I dont doubt both teams will be back next year with more arsenal and fitness. I know we will be.
See you on leg 3!

See you on leg 3! I'm not sure I saw much of you on leg 3, you kicked my ass thoroughly and I paid for trying to go with you. Solid run dude, you looked great. See you next year, we are looking forward to it!

No names or teams were mentioned, it didn't matter but pretty sure the rules state runners need to stay on the left side of the road except when directed otherwise by race officials. But I could care less to be totally honest...

Oh, sorry to insult your occupation. I guess you were one of the 3 runners that has 0 affiliation to the Walking Room. Nope, I have plenty of affiliation to the Running Room. And I'm not insulted in the slightest. I actually chose to work for the Running Room for less money than I could make elsewhere because I enjoy working for the company and spending my days talking about running. There is more to life than making money and I am quite content in my decision to be happy but make less. The 3 runners who have no affiliation to the RR apart from being my personal friends are Travis Cummings, Sean Chester and Mark Bomba. As stated earlier, Sean and Mark were last minute additions when Ryan McKenzie (employee) and Benard Onsare (sponsored athlete) couldn't make it. We were scrambling to find anyone and were very lucky to have Mark and Sean jump in. They will always have a spot on our team now if they want it and I am forever grateful for them giving up their weekend to help us win. Travis ran for us at the K100 relay as did a few other non RR affiliated people. As with Sean and Mark, Travis will always have a spot on our team if he wants one. So j9canada, how did your leg go on Sat? I hope you had a great race and enjoyed the fantastic experience that H2H is. Hopefully you will be back next year, i know we will do our best to push the Kajaks guys again to new heights and hopefully we can have another great battle next year. Matt

HHH put together a couple of good teams and they won the race. I'm not sorry at all if they rained on your parade. From what I've seen of the Running Room team in Alberta, they have been fielding strong runners, instrumental in organizing a cross country series and vastly improving the quality of the distance running here, especially for post-University types, which we needed sorely. It looks like the other teams are gonna up the ante right back. Maybe some of those who felt wronged ought to come on out to K-100...

I think all teams and runners well, and next years battle is shaping up to be big..... maybe this means there will be a team to go after the 24 year old record of 5:20:53*.

Nice to see the Running Room BUY a victory out there on the roads of H2H Saturday. This cracks me up. For years, people on tnfnorth have been ragging on Running Room for not devoting enough resources to "competitive" running. So then they enter a team into a competitive race, using some of their sponsored runners, and now this guy is filling his diapers because they're "buying" a victory? Oh, please...

HHH being a 'haney elder statesman' allow me to fill in some facts vs opinions
......some of you have got be kidding me (I hope)....well except Day (I have no idea how much fun it was because i literally survived my leg, found my car and went down to BCHS XCs.....but I went back and it was good grp of guys who I guess you could say i ran with).
....I hate to ruin this for the 'RR bought a team crowd', but the only teams to 'run for fun' that won (read no compensation from any company, etc) , as long I have ever done h2h, were the one yr Hershey harrier team that won and the teams that we put in a few yrs back
Kent can correct me on this one, but I believe he had something for the guys (compensation of some type whether it be gear, room, entries, etc)... on the Kajaks teams egs Kajaks Nike team, etc.....and the Peninsula Runners teams of the last few yrs were definitely paid off...
...besides Matt and Jake simply emailed me first (I had Wells asking me about doing it as well after they asked me, but good thing as Wiklie kicked my behind (but I could only do leg 1)....and asked me about doing it. The fact that that I know both guys (as well as many of the original team members) had nothing to do with any expenses (although don't get me wrong that was nice). The fellows who stayed behind (BYW I personally missed the Calagary legend Cummings) were all good guys (and many haney virgins or first time winners). And I also came to realize that running with other guys can be a lot of fun (best yr I personally enjoyed was the yr we had 5 guys who had never done it a few yrs back egs Cardog Mazzotta, Phil Rist, Mike Tighe, Hayden Prosser, and Medi Ahari along with heidt and Myers....god I miss Myers...although the yr we picked up Day was entertaining as hell too)
But please don't think that this 'paying' was an exception......
....in the end ask yourself the question of whether it was 110kms (100 + the 10km to the ag-rec building) of fun......

Oh I was waiting for this thread to start. Just to add some fuel to the fire, HHH asked me personally to run for the team as a friend not as a Running Room affiliate (I am not sponsored by the organization). I actually work for an independent in Calgary so chew on that to all those who think Running Room "bought" a team. I am not going to pass up a subsidized competitive opportunity on principle of supporting the "little guy"; especially when I have a chance to race and spend some time with some good company. Besides, business and real life are two different life situations and it seems to me I would be doing myself a disservice if I were to be selective on choosing who I associate with based on an inability to separate the two.
HHH does so much behind the scenes work in the running world in Alberta and asks little or nothing in return for it. All he wishes is that runners who wish to race and compete have a place to do it. The fact that he works for Running Room is a moot point; love the Running Room or hate the Running Room, he uses the resources from the organization to improve and expand the sport from the elite to the grassroots level. Tell me what Athletics Canada has done in this mode, especially at the grassroots level in the past decade to help out up and coming athletes improve their competitive opportunities?
The Alberta road race and xc scene is really well organized and large credit needs to be given to HHH and to Running Room for helping support it. It would be great to see an event like H2H become a more national event; it is a fantastic race and definitely deserves a higher profile outside of the western provinces. Teams being sponsored to travel to events such as this is a great way to increase the competitive running scene in the country.
So, to those who are going to bash HHH and the Running Room for supporting a few elites to race in an awesome event like H2H, I will kindly tell you to shove it in a bodily orifice of your choice.

Yeah I regretfully missed the show after the race Bomba, alas, another time. This working thing on Monday is overrated, getting wobbly from a few pops with the boys is way more fun.

you would have loved the plethora of haney cougars....corrigan was in his element.......grrrrrrr.....but I mausre Cardog missed them most of all
Best haney line of all time: My wife: Mark, Carmin has something to tell you. Me: What? Cardog: Well, I like cougars.....actually I love cougars.....like that one right over there (as cardog goes right past to me to some extremely attractive older...well to him....in jeans and a tank top).......

HHH, Thanks for the Vfac compliment. [We did give you cheers of encouragement on your leg Matt, but hoped you would slow down]. We try to win every year, get close but alas we don't Win, We don't like it that other teams have ringers in, but we accept it, [Ive been on such a team in the past]. In the last 2 years Ive been involved with VFAC every Athlete on our team is a Vfac athlete, trains with the group and is a fully paid up member. We all paid our own way, we even bought our own bananas and Gatorade. We got within 10 seconds of our last years 2nd place time and if yours truly had remembered to swipe the chip after leg 8, we may have beat it and put this 09 team in the top 4 of Vfacs All time best finish times. We had a last minute worry with one of us going down with Viral pneumonia, but this tough old bugger did his Captains job and showed what our team spirit is all about. Only 1 of 09s competed last year, this year we borrowed 2 Masters, and our best Athlete, didn't want to run, our 2/3rd best Vfac runners were injured. We had enough for a B team that could challenge the A team. We look forward to the event, we had 2 pre race dinner meetings to help the 2 newcomers and had meals/drinks as a social event. For us the Haney is still a great event. I'm not sure that if it was restricted to teams like us there would even be a competitive race. I think for all thats said, if there were more teams selected in the nature of this years 1/2 finishers it would make it more interesting at the front. Being 5 minutes down after leg 2 is no fun, especially when your 3rd and no real hope of closing that gap. Vfac will continue to compete in this tradition that we do. Well done to you guys, you Won, we didn't, we had fun, I'm sure you did. We look forward to trying to compete next year. Matt if you want to fly out a Vfac team for a relay out your way, you know where to contact me!! Cheers DD

The one thing I take away from this years race is that there is some fresh groups with some new rivalries brewing in this competition. Next year will only be tougher and better.

I suppose if one didn't want to wait until next year, there is always K-100, which was suggested earlier. First place took it with about 45 minutes on us. Good chance we'll do it again next year. VFAC, Hayden..... the more the merrier

Good job, guys, on the racing and reporting. H2H is an awesome event. Maybe, for 2010, we should try and get an elite Prairie Inn Men's team together, what do you think, Bomber?

I actually work for an independent in Calgary Do you work at Kerr's store? I think this thread is funny because all the previous H2H threads have been about building stacked teams, stealing runners, etc. I wish I could get out there for some of these road relays. I have done Cabot Trail twice now, and I was almost in town at the right time during K-100 last year. There should be more of these things.
