Cragg gets his NCAA record back running 7:38.59 but gets beat by Boaz, unfortunately for Cragg since this is his last year and Willis is a sophmore, he probably won't have the record for much past this year. Great run for Morrison things are getting really interesting for the 4k squad, with Bourgios and Sully having been named that leaves 4 spots, Kerr will get one, which leaves 3,
Hayden 7:55 Morrison 7:56/sub 14 Deere 9th at nats/on the team last year/sub 14 Johnston 8:03/ Coolsaet 2nd at Nats/3:49/8:14/running in seattle tonight Cantin 12th at Nats/3:48/8:14/running in seattle tonight Milne 8:10/under steeple standard Mazzotta 6th at nats/8:08/ running in Seattle tonight

..moult....I would assume the 'pool' for teh 4km would only have those who have achieved current fitness. Hence (Unless JD has done something recently) you have got to look at some recent semblance of fitness....What has kerr done recently??? In that case the current 4km team as of right now looks like:
1) sully 2) hayden 3) Joel 4) Kerr (assuming he shows a fitness situation) 5) Morrison 6) Johnston With Reid, Canton and Mazzotta dueling it out with Johnston for the last 2 spots....unless they run under 7"56 in which case that knocks Morrison and Johnston out.....

Word from Washington Coolsaet and Cantin both went 7:57, meaning the 4k squad shakes down something like this with today being the last day to qualify.
Bourgeois and Sully are in.
So for with 4 spots left there are 5 main players in the pool.
Hayden 7:55 Morrison 7:56 Coolsaet 7:57 plus being a top 3 finisher Cantin 7:57 Kerr World Track
Now of these 5 Morrison is the only one not to run Nats although Hayden did not finish. Kerr has yet to prove fitness but neither did Bourgeios.
Finally on the bright side, of the five guys Kerr is the oldest at 27 with Cantin 26, Coolsaet 24, Morrison 23 and Hayden an 21 all in all a young squad throw in Bairu 20, Wykes 20, Brannen 21, Gillis 23, McKenzie 27 and all the other guys I am forgetting Corbitt, Mazzotta, Johnson etc.. The future of the world cross team looks really good and that is not included current juniors like Benninger, Woods, Nova and Pawluk.

Hey Fellas, Not sure if this proves fitness or not, but Kerr won a small 3k today at Va-Tech. Ran 8:21 and won by 2secs. Not sure how it played down. But with being a World Champ. athlete I would think he has a little pull. Moults where did you get the results for Reid and Cantin (they have now become the Canadian version of Cragg and Lincoln-never more than 2sec apart). One other note, Nate Auto-ed today with a 1:48.16 (2nd to someone from Kent State). Ellerton hit provisional. I think that the following people will be on the short course team:
Sully Kerr Coolseat Hayden Morrison Bourgeois-thus bumping Cantin. Just my 2 cents

Well getting back to the meet itself, I just happened to catch the races on ESPN.
Gary didn't got into any trouble really, got out good and settled into 3rd for much of the race. He was in very good position coming into the final corner, but he left enough room for Krummenacker to go by on the inside around the corner and was forced outside a little bit.
Times posted for the mile on letsrun weren't totally accurate. Finals 1 Paul Korir NIKE-KEN 3:53.26 2 Laban Rotich adidas-KEN 3:55.93 3 Kevin Sullivan Reebok-CAN 3:56.57 4 Alan Webb Nike 3:57.52 5 Chris Mulvaney Arkansas-GBR 3:59.72 6 Julius Achon NIKE-UGA 4:00.02 7 Alex Kipchirchir NIKE-KEN 4:03.80 -- James Karanu Kenya DNF
The splits for Korir were pretty smokin, Karanu was a rabbit for him. Heading thru 400 at 54-55. He then pretty much ran 29, 30's for the rest of the race. Sullivan ran with Webb in the last 2 spots for much of the race. He was about 2:28 at 1000, then picked up the last 600 to end at 3:56. He looked very comfortable gaining on the leaders on the last lap.
Good races for the two guys either way.

Just to clear a couple things up. AthCan says they only send 5 to short course. It would be great to see that number at 6. Also, Bourgois has proved fitness in Cross races in Eorope.

Bomba, Cantin and I went to an internet cafe after dinner. Ath Can should send 6 but there is a chance they'll only send 5 as they have done that in the past. They really should send 6 this year. Get healthy Bomba

what role will the cross race this past weekend play for selection? Guys and Girls side of things?
MONDOR WINS UBC OPEN CROSS.
Canadian Cross Country Champion EMILIE MONDOR won the UBC Open Cross Country race. A very competitive field of runners assembled today at one of the best Cross Country courses in the country - Jericho Beach Park in Vancouver.
Mondor, the defending champion, confirmed her high level of fitness. She took the lead right from the start of the 4km race and never looked back. She set a new course record with a time of 12 min 48sec, thus improving on her old record which was 12 minutes and 55 seconds. Second place fininsher was Malindi Elmore of Kelowna with a time of 13min 02 sec. Third place finisher was Tina Connelly of Port Coquitlam with a time 13min 22 sec.
Matt Johnston of Surrey won the men's 6km race. Matt took an early lead on the muddy course and won with time of 18min and 55 sec. Last year's winner and the 2003 NAIA Cross Country Champion, UBC athlete Jerry Ziak was second with a time of 18 min 58 sec. Sam Pawluk of the Richmond Kajaks Track Club placed third with a time of 19min 03 sec.
The UBC Open Cross Country race plays an important role in preparing the National Team athletes for the 2004 World Cross Country Championships which will be held on March 20-21, 2004 in Brussels, Belgium

.....martin..for men it means nothing...for women geez..... Over the past few yrs it was pretty easy for women's selection...this yr it is a freaking nightmare..... Pells, Mondor, Connelly, Elmore, Douma, Inman, Dupre-Healy...who else? I mean a 9:15 girl (Inman) probably won't make the team.......whereas last yr I think some people in the 9:30 range made it.....Can u imagine if Babcock planned on running........I would bet on that team for a top 3 spot....in either the short or long race.......
