Please read this posting on the CIS website. If this rubs you the wrong way, do somthing about it. Write your AD or former AD. Cross-country should not have to apply for renewal as a CIS sport. www.universitysport.ca/e/plans/documents/Program_Renewal_Report.pdfI would like to draw your attention to the list of "commercial" sports that have been pre-selected and need not apply for renewal. Cross-country (and track, for that matter) are listed on p.5 as sports that need apply. Why such inequities in the CIS sport family? Brad

Ok, I read the whole thing (didn't I post something a little while ago about this??)
A couple things that stand out:
1) Section B, 5 (page 2) it says that gender equity (iv on the list) is a criteria... How is football pre-selected if it is the most gender inequal?
2) Section B, 8 - looks like we will find out in October where Track and X-C rank...
3) Section 2.2.2 - at least the evaluation will occur for the whole sport and not men's and women's separately. It would not be a fun day if one of the two teams were cut.
4) Section 2.5.2 - love this section... guess we need corporate sponsorship and tv coverage to be considered an asset to the CIS... they talk about how it develops the sport and such, but it seems that money is an important issue to them...
5) Section 2.6.. a few interesting things in here, some sports may be cut over sports that score less depending WHEN the championships are... wow...
Overall, after reading the whole thing, it doesn't look too bad for Track and Cross Country... we (in my opinion) seem to have a lot of schools participating and a lot of athletes as well. Still, I think it's outrageous that Track could be facing the chopping block...
