Nice look Moulton. I figured that I would post this again...
One of the initiatives that came out of the Coaches' Association meetings this year at Moncton for CIS XC was an initiative focusing on an alumni weekend when the CIS XC championship is held in the corridor.
Someone started a thread on the old tnfnorth (presumable a former CIAU/CIS athlete). A CIS XC Dream Team (for both men and women) would be a nice addition to the press conference on the Friday evening and could be an event that could be tied in to a wine and cheese for CIS alumni. Especially, if we could take it from an informal medium (as it is presently) and create another medium through which CIS alumni could vote for members of the Dream Team, e.g., a poll.
Anyone with input? CIS championships will be held in Guelph next fall. At present, myself, Dan Hennigar (Dal), and Trent Stellingwerf (Guelph) are on the committee in charge of alumni advancement. It would be nice to have something healthy discussion as to where and how we could take ideas such as this...any takers?
And of course, I am sure a list of candidates would make for healthy conversation/debate...

Hi Brad, and anyone else interested.
We have had some very informal talk here at Guelph regarding that upcoming CIS XC Champs that we're hosting here at Guelph next fall. We're really hoping to make it a great event for athletes, spectators and former CIS athletes and now alumni.
Having some input from CIS XC alumni themselves, as to what types of events/distinction they would like to see would be great!
Currently, as a rough framework since I'm the one leading this part of the CIS XC event here at Guelph, I'm going to lay-out a letter including a schedule for that CIS XC weekend by early September, and then forward to all of the CIS XC School coaches to then forward to their respective alumni. I will also post here, and the through track-canada, sportingcanada etc to get the word out.
Included will be some kinda of Friday night reception (possibly involving the Sleeman's Hospitality Suite- not sure yet?) for alumni and coaches, a possibility of having a lower-key alumni 5km "Race/Fun-Run" on the Saturday morning before the CIS championship races, and then the possibility of 'if' having bought a ticket beforehand- going to the awards banquet- which we're hosting immediatly after the races on campus. This is dependant upon where we end up holding the banquet in terms of having the extra seating available for alumni.
anyways, these are all still pretty rough ideas and anymore input would be great!
Cheers,

I'll get things rolling for the men. Potential dream teamers: John Halvorsen U of Ottawa 4 Golds? Paul McCloy MUN Multiple medals Paul Williams U of T/ UBC? Multiple medals Steve Boyd QUeen's Multiple Medals Joel Bourgeois U de M Multiple medals Brendan Mathias U of T At least 1 gold, multiple medals Jeff Scheibler UBC At least 1 gold, multiple medals Graham Cocksedge UVIC 1 Gold ! Silver and 2 Bronzes? Jamie Epp U of Sask 2 golds & 2 Silvers?
That only goes back to the mid-80s though.
There used to be a great CIS history thing on the sporting canada web site, but you can't accesss it in the new format. Does anyone else have it?

Coldneck, great additions. I think as far as CIS performances go, Halvorsen would have to be #1. McCloy wa probably a better career XC runner, but I am pretty sure both placed in the top 10 at World XC. I am pretty sure Halvo won 3 or 4 Golds in his time.
I think Deere only ran 2 seasons of XC, and placed 1st and 4th. It qould be hard to place him ahead of Graham Cocksedge and Jamie Epp if you are only judging by CIS performances.
I guess Ryan McKenzie is worthy of mention with his silver and 3 bronzes, although he can't really be eligible for the hall of fame with track eligibility left.
