So, not discussing who will win it, what do you guys think will be the winning time in the 4x800 at CIS in March? Will there be a record? What is the record anyway?
Sue me I was bored and didn't want to study...

What is the record anyway? Championship record is 7:29.23 Manitoba ran in 95. www.dal.ca/~trackwww/ciaurec.htmlFor there to be a record, how many schools do you think can put together four guys to run 1:52s when it counts? Since those are CI championship records, it is possible better performances have been put up in regular season competition (fastest 1500 is 3:44, not Klassen's championship 3:46). However, as far as the 4x800 goes, I don't think anyone has gone quicker.

I'm just thinking about that 7:29 in the 4X8 and I am really impressed with it. Like Ian said, it is hard to find 4 guys from the same team to have the ability to run 1:52 ... let alone run it all during the same race ... let alone run at it at a championship meet ... does anybody know the 4 runners anyways?

If im not mistaken the team was Jeff Giesbrecht,Mike Kemp, Jim Dyck, Chris Webber. "600m 1:16.10 Byron Goodwin Manitoba 3/11/95" why would goodwin have not run? he had to have been on the team, no? what year was CI's held at the skydome? that track was deffinitly super fast, 1995?either way i can't see anyone comming near the 4x800m record in the near future. as for ci's this year, i think uvic will set the pace and make a great, fast, race. but i think they won't be able to drop the guelph/windsor boys who will get pulled along, and then windsor will win with mackenzie's final leg, recording the fastest 4x800 team we have seen in recent memory. but who knows...

(Webber's last year of eligibilty was in '90.)

things are starting to look a little clearer, as everyone has run some races now. life time PB's don't matter, outdoor times don't matter. now we can compare indoor times from this season. most all of these times are on 300m tracks, so can be looked at fairly equally.
windsor mckenzie 1:18:66/2:23.99 pye 1:22.71/2:30.42 ellis 2:31.22 coates 2:31.60 ----------------------------- savard 2:32.57
guelph bourke 1:21.63/2:28.93 armitage 1:21.22/2:29.77 desormeaux 2:29.13 dunbrack 2:29.35 ------------------------------- straw 1:22.92
victoria babiuk 1:52.28/2:28.18 kennedy 1:20.21/1:52.62 saqui 1:53.18 henderson 1:20.81 -------------------------------- lehman 1:55.73
guelph and victoria appear to have very balanced teams, with not much to give from any of their four runners. of course they are missing the home track advantage. mckenzie's 1500m really made a statement. everyone seems to have a more than capable fifth man should injuries arrise.
these three teams seem so far ahead of the rest of the field i would be really amazed if some other team could even be in the hunt for a top three finish.
good luck to all.
