"Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin and South Carolina recruited Lechebo, but the UF track team’s No. 2 ranking, and the warm Gainesville weather attracted him. "
When was Florida ever ranked #2? I'm not criticizing his choice, but the article makes it sound like UF's team is stronger than the other schools mentioned. Realistically, they're not in the same league as Wisconsin or Michigan.

They were talking about the track team being #2. Which at last years outdoor championships they were. The article didn't say #2 distance team in the country.

He was NOT recruited in seriousness at Wisco or Michigan ONLY enquiries and upon his running WAY back of Benninger it was a good thing

The NCAA has some foolish way of ranking teams. It's prob. the "power rankings" they were refering to.
they mean nothing, and are mainly based on dual meets.
Even the final rankings at NCAA meet are meaningless. If you have two people win at the champs, and get 20 pts, you'll be close to the top ten. You might not even have anybody else on your team. If you want to see how well rounded a program is, look at the indoor, outdoor and xc finishes.

Lechebo is the real deal.
I'm not certain whether wisconsin and michigan avoided recruit him heavily because of academic reasons.... but he has all the tools, he will be a medalist at ncaa cross in a few years down the road. The way he ran in toronto at national cross he would of been a medalist in the senior mens race that day.

Agreed. I'll always wonder whether he'd have broken 8 at OFSAA, dueling with Mike Woods and eschewing the 15, having run 8:23 indoors early in March.

I hardly think he's running WAY!! back of Kurt seeing how he fell twice at Notre Dame also if you read the article is said he's only been running seriously for 2 years and Kurts been running his whole life So he has quiet the head start on him.
Henok will be one of the best distance runners Canada has seen in a while as long as he has the coaching that guys like Bairu and Brennan have. I just don't see Jeff Pigg in the same category as those coaches. Although he did coach the indoor NCAA Mile Champ back in 2001 I believe.
