Hey, I was wonderring if anyone knows how easy it is to get into indoor races unattached. ie: NO university OR club affiliation. I'm wonderring if I will still need to get an otfa membership? and what kind of entry fees I might be looking at for the meets at York and U of T.
Thanks.

go to the otfa website www.otfa.ca/click on OTFA> then click on Registration all the info is there, you can register for a full year or part year, print off form, register as an independent

if the meet is otfa sanctoned, you will probably have to pay an extra bit of cash to cover otfa insurance (i think that's what it covers). i'm not sure about what the fee is, but i think it's somewhere between $5 and $15. it's a cash grab for the otfa. if you plan on racing a lot indoors and outdoors unattached, it might be worth your while to find a club that would just let you run for them for little or no fee. i think the independent otfa registration cost is high.

not aware of many clubs that would like to do that, why let an athlete be a uncoached member for a reduced fee, the club is taking a chance, members usually have to sign a code of conduct, if the athletes acts like a jerk at a meet it reflects back on to the club
also clubs do bingos and other fundraising, other members would not necessarily appreciate someone getting a deal and not participating in club activities
cheapest you could maybe join a club for is around $100 for a year and then you still have to pay the OTFA fee, and maybe put something into an athletes account to cover meet fees and commit to doing a bingo or some other fundraiser
to be an otfa registered independent for a full year the cost is $125, for one indoor season it is $70, one outdoor season $100, and for cross country only it is only $40, and then you pay whatever the meet fee is
you don't need to be otfa registered to enter most all-comers meets, just pay a couple $ more than those that are otfa
anyway, at least there are options

ryan, we will be hosting some mini-meets in London this indoor season that will not be OTFA affiliated so anyone can enter for a $5-6 dollar fee per event. The idea is to get more high schoolers involved. The dates are Saturdays December 4th, January 22nd and February 12th from 10 am -12 pm. There will be a Championship meet on Sat. February 26th 10-1pm. I'll post more info when I've got it sorted out. The info will be up on London Runner.
