CIS Track in Danger??

I just received this email from my coach. I'm guessing a lot of people also got it, but I think posting it here would be a good idea....

In case you were not aware, there is a poll on the CIS site (http://www.universitysport.ca/e/index.cfm) asking which championship you prefer the most. Take a look, vote and get your athletes to vote. It sure wouldn't hurt our cause any.

That's rather a specious headline. Nowhere on the page is there any indication of a Survivor 'voting off the island' of the championship that polls the lowest.

Besides, online polls are completely invalid as far as any kind of statistical analysis goes. They are totally self-selecting and have only minimal protections against multiple voting or other ballot stuffing techniques (for what it's worth, I was able to vote twice from the same computer).

I somehow doubt any CIS policy maker is going to kill the championships based on the results of this poll. Sowing seeds of fear unnecessarily is not really beneficial.

You're right, there is no indication that Track is in trouble, but it was suggested that it may be... hence the question marks at the end of the topic... And yes, any decision would not be based on this poll, but it may show some support for the sport, which is all the email I received is asking for.

Also, I posted this because it may gets some discussion on the topic. I should also note, XC is not mentioned on the list of championships...

Next to my own sports, I like the basketball champoinship the best. I do not think that any of the sports listed in the vote are in trouble.
