Interesting.
@ "Coward", even if you wanted to remain anonymous you could have made your name something like runnerdude instead of "annonymouscoward" spelt wrong, which possibly aludes to the fact that it was a personal attack.... as making your name that way seems like something of a taunt. Also I think there may be information from another thread leaking onto here about Connor and Justin which may or may not be linked to the discussion.
As I was highly confused as to why Scott began defending himself randomly against something which he was never accused of on this thread....
@ Scott, we did read that post and nowhere in it does he allude anything towards you.

If you don't put in a name on flotrack when you comment it comes up as "anonymouscoward", thats where it came from. Its not an attempt to taunt anyone.

Not that it really matters much but here is the dribble he wrote on the BC High School site some time ago. "
As far as peaking for bc's.... why? Nobody runs it, especially steeple and he is going to have to run a lot better than he did at xc nat's if he wants to make world juniors. There are a lot of guys who will be eligible who are returning and likely keen to make that team as well. it would be smarter to peak him for this race."
I don't know who this guy is or care too but it was directed, in part, towards me and I probably should have just let it go. This site is great but it does have its share of knobs. I am only giving back for the blast I had for a number of decades. If I am not making a positive contribution then my efforts will be short lived. I am enjoying this coaching thing and as long as the kids keep coming out I will probably keep do it for many years to come. Its easier than doing the work and racing myself... I should have figured this out much sooner....

I like your passion for the sport Scott, as do I like Ron's undying patriotism for all things Victoria. When I eventually get off the fence (as SQW puts it) and move out there I hope he'll hype me as well.
There must be ENORMOUS amounts of pressure on your son. It's just high school running.
And a shout out to ARuss , here a guy who came out to a some UBC practices while I was there and struggled to hang off the back and has worked hard to the point where he can run a 15:00 5k and is a legit ITUer.
And food for thought, With a bit of focused work could Simon run sub 4? Ron B?

No pressure on Justin yet. He has already surpassed his Dad. lol This is only his 2nd real year of structured running and he is enjoying the ride, like he should. Who wouldn't while every practice and race is a PB. It won't always be, but those days are a few years off and so is any real pressure and yes he knows it is only High School.
Thanks MrSymonds, look us up if you ever get out this way.

Scott I think it's great that you are passionate about giving back to the sport!! We need more good coaches who have actually been good runners and hopefully your passion about running will rub off. Good luck in your endeavors.
@coward, I recommend that you change your name. That name could annoy people in discussions and why would you want to be called coward all the time anyway. But your point is taken about flotrack it is slightly funny. Though anonymous posters over there are only people who are bashing videos or just aren't involved at all.

That's good to hear, I look forward to reading good things about him in Marek's emails.
If you and Justin can convince Marek to include Steeplechase at the Dual meet then there is a good chance I would come out of "retirement" and run.

Kenty...remember 'the 24 hour rule' of posting!!!!!!
Jeff....and to think if u did come out of retirement for the steeple...you'd have a nice pair of speedos for the water pit

And food for thought, With a bit of focused work could Simon run sub 4? Ron B? 1) I will start a separate thread soon, when I get a bit more time, about SQW and his running - I have a fair amount of insight as I have seen him in training and racing on the track, and my predictions about what he "might" be able to run will outrage some, but that's for another day. 2) In the meantime, I trust that most people realize that my latest post about Victoria, on that other ridiculous thread, was made with tongue fully in cheek. Of course, I realize that runners can succeed in many different environments, and I know that the individual drive of each runner is far more significant than other factors. McCloy in Newfoundland, Halvorsen in Ottawa, hello... Some good coaching/advice/guidance is in there some where, and "perfect nutrition" is down the list a bit, from my 40 + years of coaching experience... Which is not to say that I don't think Victoria is a great place to live and train and race. I was born there almost 65 years ago, and was lucky enough to travel and see other great places, in Canada and around the World. I was always glad to come home to Victoria. I can see more of an advantage for triathletes to centre in Victoria, because of the cycling and running perspective on a year around basis --- but Paul Tichelaar found a way to be great while living in Edmonton, by far the most Northern City in Canada - so....Anyone for a Big Mac? (:
