Record Breaking Weekend for Canadian Track and Field

OTTAWA – Valentine’s Day weekend was truly a time for celebration for sport in Canada, not too be left in the cold, four track and field athletes broke Canadian indoor records; all records are pending ratification.

Dylan Armstrong of Kamloops, BC broke the 12-year standing shot put record by throwing 20.85m in Leipzig, Germany; he bettered the 20.32m record set by Brad Snyder in 1998. Armstrong currently holds both Canadian indoor and outdoor records.

Pickering, Ontario’s Tabia Charles claimed the indoor Long Jump record with a distance of 6.60m in Ithaca, New York. Charles now holds four Canadian Records including the indoor and outdoor marks in both the long jump and triple jump.

There was a strong showing in the women’s pole vault this weekend. Carly Dockendorf of Port Moody, BC captured the national title by 1cm vaulting 4.42m at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Washington. Shortly after Saskatoon’s Kelsie Hendry vaulted 4.45m in Colorado Springs to capture the national mark. Hendry now holds both the indoor and outdoor pole vault records.
