What's Seb Coe's connection to Canada? Arnold? Two less spots for the people who put their name honestly in the draw. I know Coe is involved in2012 , but do you think the 2012 people will have any Canadian's carry their torch? Does anyone know how many of the relay spots were filled with non draw people. I know where I live alot of local media people got to carry the torch. Most of these people are band wagon jumpers who have probably never seen outside of hockey any of the olympic events even though there are numerous world cup events in the area.

It is common to have hosts countries for upcoming games invovled. Past not so much. A past Canadian and World Heavy Weight Boxer maybe. Lennox could very well be one of the carriers.

Here is my opinion, and it is offered with full respect for those who don't share this point of view... One of the reasons that the Olympics (or other International events) are hosted is to bring world-wide attention to the City/Province/Country that is doing the hosting. Many sponsors are on board because of the possible multi-media exposure, and some potential for recovery of their $$$. That also goes for the politicians who make decisions to host such events - they are hopeful that, long-term, there will be a huge return if the event has the widest possible audience around the World, and not just in Vancouver or B.C. or Canada... I would guess that the addition of a few non-Canadians, that are well known in the USA or Great Britain, or many other nations, is a huge plus towards the potential of making the rest of the World aware of what is happening... Seb Coe and the Terminator in the Torch Relay will likely be feature material in telecasts that reach many, many millions of people, and that's a good thing, from my perspective.

Does anyone know... has there ever been such a long Olympic torch relay, or one involving so many people? I'd have to guess not to mny of them have covered this much ground or dragged on this long. When did the torch start criss crossing the country? I like that they have some interesting people and celebrities in the relay. Plenty of ordinary Canadians had their chance. Good on them, but I'll admit I'm more interested in seeing recognizable or otherwise noteworthy people carry the torch. Not that all the carriers aren't noteworthy in some way. "Noteworthier" I guess is what I'm interested in.

What I would was why Donovan Bailey didn't run, but Arnold did. www.cbc.ca/olympics/story/2010/02/13/spo-vanoc-bailey.html
