Great meet. Canadians very impressive across the board. Noelle Montcalm-wow! Got to be some US coaches muttering to themselves. The Windsor 800 girls ran beautifully. Mike DelMonte and Ricky West had a good battle in their heat, both at 1:51. Justin Duncan ran very bravely-should run 3:58 if splits a bit more even. Interestingly, Jeremy Rae, Trent Sayers and JP Mallette all struggling at ND. Canadian universities are as good an option as any kid needs. That being said, US depth is staggering when you see it at a big meet like that. One thing that caught my eye was about 50 girls lined up to have their pole vault run throughs. 45.7 400m indoors pretty nice too.

Congratulations to "Real Deal" O'Neil who set a PB and set the Western Mustangs record in the 3000m in 8:13.98

Interestingly, Jeremy Rae, Trent Sayers and JP Mallette all struggling at ND. I hope you were talking about their grades.... 6 Rae, Jeremy Notre Dame 4:08.02 so you consider 4:08 for the mile, in february, as a freshman, to be struggling... out of curiosity.. whats your defenition for performing well?

Agreed with F.T. I thought 4:08 at this time of the season and a freshman just getting use to a whole bunch of different things was pretty good, & 6/43 runners. & the other 2 are also doing very well I thought.

I also would like to say that you're stupid for suggesting such a thing.

Very impressive time for indoors and just beginning university, but I do also think jeremy should be capable at this time of running faster than 4:08, one of the reasons I say that is because he has already run a 3:44 1500 just at practice and he should be able to run a mile slightly faster than 4:08, although yes I will admit 4:08 is very impressive!

Sometimes a little truth hurts. I am a big fan of JR, but he is better than he has performed to date. He ran very well all last year, including early, so no, 4:08 is no big deal. The point of my comment is that many Canadian university boys are running as well or better, so get your facts straight.

The point of my comment is that many Canadian university boys are running as well or better, so get your facts straight. if anyone watched JP's heat of the 1km he got tripped up and still was able to pull out a 2:32. not to mention he ran a sub 8:30 3km at one of ND's first indoor meets.

I could be wrong but I think indoors last year JR ran 4:10 for the mile, could be wrong though. & yes I saw that JP was tripped & it seemed to shake him up. So 2:32 is very good considering. & also, alot of the Canadian University guys are 2-3 years older than Rae. Just a thought.

what matters is that jeremy is a great guy. that's all that matters. at the end of the day, that's what i care about. i'd invite him over for dinner, go camping with the guy... that says a lot about a man.
jeremy is probably going to run somewhere between 3:37 and 3:43 this summer cause thats when the sun is shining and thats when it really counts. his 4:08 was super cute and we'll leave it at that that.
JP will get back down to 2:27/:28 at his next race. that's what i think.
and evan stevens, guelph freshman, 1:53, also very cute.

"you guys" are pretty hard on a young chap in 1st yr under a new system, location, school, etc ... remember he is '91 and he has run faster (under different conditions/time of year).
What I have seen in him is an ability to know when to peak and win races or produce times (Pan Ams he lost to '90 Mac Fleet now at Oregon ... who just ran 4:03 mile). From what I know JR was a low mileage/high intensity high schooler; transitions like that take time to adjust to.
I am sure the coaching staff at ND are taking it slow with them and saying something akin to "long term, stay fit, indoors is not priority, experience and learn, work slowly into a new mileage per week 'reality'".
4-4:03 is a reality ... however to run 4:06-08 range and transition into outdoors healthy with a base he is now comfortable with is where my thinking leads me.
patience grasshopper

Yes, all valid comments. JR has lots of time to run fast. Lets return to some positive comments. I can't believe no one else wanted to comment on Justin Duncan. It was a great racing effort and it looks to me like he can run 3:39 this summer. Melissa Bishop at 2:05 deserves some praise. Not too many women run that fast indoors. Be interesting to see if she can get down to 2:02-03 outdoors. Overall CIS looks like it is going to be a great meet this year.

They all ran at the Notre Dame Opener back on Jan. 15th. Rae did 1:53.46 for 800, Mallette ran a 1:55 and Sayers ran 2:30 for the 1000. I'd say those are all pretty good results for early in the season.
