Anyone attempting this double this year? I'm a little choked they changed the date of the Sun Run, it would have been nice to race it before a half marathon but whatever. Has anyone attempted a half marathon backed up with a 10k the week after and run well in both? I'm thinking a week is plenty of time to recover provided the days in between are true rest days but I was wondering if anyone knew from experience. I know the TC 10k is a week before the BMO half but the Sun Run is such a better race and the amount of people who participate in it really get me pumped to run well.
Thoughts, comments, advice would be good to hear.
Thanks.
Travis

Probably not what you want to hear, but I think you should pick one. I have tried the double of a half followed by a 10k and it was not pretty. Of course, everyone is an individual, but I'd put my money on you running a disappointing 10k the week after a half.

Can't speak for anyone else, but my legs are always still a little wobbly a week after a good half marathon. Likely not a great idea, IMHO.
BTW - is that a decent half? What's the route? Might try to work a business trip around that or the Sun Run if it looks like it makes sense to.

It's pretty fast but there is one decent sized hill from what I gather. Times are usually pretty competitive.
What's a faster course, the Sun Run or the TC 10k?

I did the sun run, tc double last year, and I find the sun run is probably 20secs faster than the tc run.

THe Sun Run start with the first km downhill. Your first k and mile splits will be very fast. After that it is very gently rolling towards flat. There is one hill that I find throws me off because I am weak on hills, it's at 5k, it's really a short ramp onto the Burrard Street Bridge. If you can recover quickly you have a good section of down on the latter half of the bridge to go nuts. The Sun Run is faster than the TC by 20 - 30 second for sure. HOWEVER, the TC will be more indicative of how fast you are in comparison to many other road races you run. If you were to use one as a gauge at how fast you could race other distances, the TC would be more accurate. If you are simply looking for a pb-blingy race go for the Sun RUn.

...arrrrggghhhhh......the old Sun Run course was probably 20-30 sec faster (maybe more)...the newer one isn't that fast when u look at the whole racing situation (sun run before the TC, etc....)
...except for the first km the current Sun Run course is not an easy one. The downhills are steep and early on (where surprisingly many people tend to be conservative), while the uphills are located in possibly the worst places and are long (as opposed to short up and steep uphills and long flwoing downhills) to be able to run fast.
Considering the old course record is well under 28mins, while the new course frecord is not even close can testify to this thesis....
...the biggest reason for the sun run being quicker is simple......timing of the evenst in the past with the Tc being after the Sun Run (this yr could see some faster than normal TC times because of csheduling) better fields and people make a more concerted effort to run quicker there (egs mini taper) becuase they know it is a bigger race....egs how many people back off to run a fast TC vs a fast Sun Run

Interesting Mark, so you are saying there isn't much difference between the two races course wise anymore? I was kind of under the impression of that myself, Spenny Morrison ran 30:49 and then 30:48 a week later at the TC after running the Sun Run. Having run the Sun Run myself the past two years I can attest that the course really isn't that easy, especially the back half and the Bridge right at 5k.
Good to know.
