Victoria Track Series.

Anyone interested in running middle distance to 5000m on the track in Victoria from Saturday, May 1st through to August 21st?

If you live in the Greater Victoria area (especially) and to a lesser degree Vancouver's lower mainland, you will know about the FM rock radio stations: 100.3 the Q! and the Zone 91.3. They are brother stations within the same company, who together span age demographics of at least 16 to 55 (these are my stats, but probably not far off). - The bulk, I would suggest would be 19 - 45 years of age. They are likely the most listened to stations on Vancouver Island (pop. 750, 000 est.)

Reid has probably titled his blog posts exclusively from the Q!'s song line-ups.

So the name going-forward is: 'the Q!'s Victoria Track Series'

The Zone 91.3 (younger audience) will play a supporting role and together, they will begin airing ads, public service announcement and on-air personalities mentioning the track series - of course much closer to the event's starting date of Saturday, May 1st, 2010 this will start happening.

Proceeds from the event will go towards the Mustard Seed Food bank.

The Q! and the Zone will also support by being at every event, hosting a minimum of 4 of them and supplying music at all.

The series website will be up soon - I will share that address with you as soon as we are launched.

That's awesome. Good to see those radio stations helping out... free advertising to the only two good stations on the island is pretty awesome (minue CFAX, but that doesn't count)

One tip of advice to the event coordinators/promoters: Licence the event.

Subject: More good news.

Yesterday I posted a message that I would share more good news about the Q!'s Victoria Track Series.

Popeye's Supplements a cross-Canada retailer of all things supplementary to your diet, would like to support and get further involved in the running community.

When I first saw their website, I thought, welllllll....it's all about body building and power, whereas middle and long distance is all about endurance and fleet speed however, they do want to supply what endurance athletes need at Canada's lowest prices.

Talking to owner of the local store in downtown Victoria on Douglas St, I found Chris Kinnear is a past Lacrosse and hockey player and he once played for our Mann Cup winning Victoria Shamrocks lacrosse team. He seems earnest and named several athletes he supports including triathletes and runners, who I happen to know and an professional MMA fighter I used to train with in Kickboxing my thought is if Chris is going to support athletics, let's have him! We need all the support we can get.

Licensing the event: great idea. I was so impressed this summer when I went down to Portland, OR for a triathlon (sorry running gods) and they had a free beer garden for all participants and volunteers. Portland is no slouch in terms of great microbrews. Added a great social dynamic to the event.

While you're at it with the Hermannator and Vancouver Island Brewery, toss in some of that Hermann's Dark Lager. That has to be my favourite BC brew.

The last couple of days I have shared that the Q!s Victoria Track Series, brought to you by Popeye's Supplements is happening and that there is more good news coming.

Online Registration is now open for the Q!'s Victoria Track Series:

$10 each race, $32 for 4-pack and $55 to race every available race, 'Season Pass'.

Distances 800m, 1500m, Mile, 3000m and 5000m - there will be 3 opportunities to race each distance, minimum - heats can be added dependent on number of registrations.
