I was in Holland last May and to see the Canadian and other nations' war cemeteries kept in pristine condition by school children, really makes you stop and think. And to read the soldiers' ages on the tombstones, many aged 19 and 20, would choke up the toughest of us. I was a simple tourist, but being a Canadian, was treated almost like a hero by a very appreciative nation.

I absolutely took my 2 minutes today. Remembrance Day is now the annual date for the Thetis Lake Relays. Thetis lake(s) is just to the west of Victoria, and for many/most Victoria endurance athletes, Thetis is our Church. All trails, undulating, winding, around Lakes, through Forests, etc. If you know where you are going, you can run 20 milers, with almost no pavement, and almost no loops. Some of us started running there in the late 1960's, and it is the favourite long run place for almost all of the Victoria-area distance runners and triathletes, since that time. So I made sure I arrived there by 11:00 am this morning, even though the Relays didn't start until 1:00 pm, and I walked quietly through the trails, remembering... Thank you to all the vets., and families, and friends, who gave so much to make us the wonderful country that we are...
