I, for one, am not excited about these games coming to Toronto. A time when Toronto is currently running a billion dollar deficit is not when you want to win something which relies on building infrastructure from money you don't have. Toronto is having such a huge problem managing its budget it's contemplating implementing a tax to restaurant goers and liquor (bought anywhere) only within city limits. In an attempt to be fiscally responsible, the city currently has a land transfer tax and vehicle registration tax which no other provincial city has implemented. The TTC is raising fares because of its own stupidity. The money will be generated through municipalities, so my taxes will increase. Queens Park is running $25 billion deficit and Dalton is thinking about introducing Dalton Days. When you have two forms of government wanting to tax more and make people work without pay, you know you're in solid financial footings. Since the Pan Am games will not generate a net profit, we should not have bid to host them amidst these financial woes. It's simply irresponsible spending at this point.

Here's hoping that track and field facilities will be upgraded and increased in the greater Toronto area as a result. Unfortunately very little has changed since I competed in the mid 1980s.
Sadly, Hamilton had two chances to build excellent indoor and outdoor athletics facilities at McMaster University without success. Is it really the best place to build a new track and field stadium for these Games?

Is it just me or is Hamilton not Toronto? From the article linked at the top of this thread: "In all, more than 50 venues and six new facilities are planned for the region, including $170 million for another aquatic and sports training centre at University of Toronto, a $150-million stadium in Hamilton and four new Olympic-sized pools."
