What are the OFSAA rules regarding switching schools? Do you have to sit out a year of Cross-Country and Track? If so, why? Or if you actually change residences do you not have to sit out?

I'm not entirely certain on OFSAA's rules pertaining to switching schools when it's residence related, but I'm pretty sure when you just decide to switch i know you are ineligible to compete in any sports that you did in the school year before. So, for example, if you didnt do track at all last year but you did cross and transferred for this school year, you would have to sit out cross country and be able to run track .. hopefully that helps a bit

What are the OFSAA rules regarding switching schools? Do you have to sit out a year of Cross-Country and Track? If so, why? Or if you actually change residences do you not have to sit out? You have to fill out a transfer request that gets approved at your association level. If you move to a different city and change schools then it is a done deal ... fill in the paperwork and start running for your new school. If you switch schools for any other reason then you give the reasons on the form and it can be denied or accepted. You usually have to have a "substantial" course offering difference between schools in order to switch but decisions can be appealed. I had a runner a couple years ago that needed to switch schools for her final semester since she needed an advanced functions course for her university acceptance and we weren't offering it semester 2. She was initially denied and then accepted on appeal. If you have 2 or 3 courses at a new school that are not offered at your current school then you're usually ok. I've also had students that switched for "personal" reasons (bullying etc.) that required a letter from a principal to go along with the form and the request was accepted for them. If your application for transfer gets denied then you have to sit out the year. Hope that explanation helps.

If you are switching schools and you have changed residence than you fill out an OFSAA transfer form saying you want to apply for eligibility. If you are just transferring then you can still fill out the form saying you want to have eligibility. I transfered this year and i got eligibility for sports. Hope This Helped Good Luck
