5k road with dog (Tito) 18:10 (world record is 18:08) Seriously? I am assuming that is on leash? That is pretty soft if you aren't kidding. I went 18:38 when neither me nor my dog at the time were in any kind of shape or pushing all that hard-dog stopped and marked his territory several times too. I think we were only one spot behind the now Mrs krs1.

I'm pretty sure I could slug out the 18 and change, but my Newf would hard pressed to break the 45 minute mark. SI is right though, if 18:08 is the WR, there are a few Jack Russells in my area that need to go out and do a 5 k or two with their owners. Now, if their owners could go 18 low....................

I wonder what the 5k record is for going with a baby stroller? Around 1996 I did a 5k in Sydney Victoria in about 16:20, and just behind me was Rob Reid, pushing a little one.

spaff is frantically googling! A little surprised here too. We have huskies that we also dogsled with, but take running sometimes too. Attaching their pulling harness to a waistbelt by a bungee cord and then giving it for 5km would be interesting. Especially if there was a Jack Russell (ie. dinner) running in front

Jack Russells aren't real dogs and wouldn't qualify for the record.

On-leash, of course. The record is really soft. Tito stopped to crap something liquid (the rules clearly stated that you had to pick up after your dog, but it was not something I could pick up) and to swim in a dirty ditch. I think that the 18:08 is just the only person who has ever tried to claim the WR. Tito could go sub-16 in the right race. She just follows whoever is in the lead, and won't pass them (luckily, in the two dog races she has been in, one human-without-dog ran each time, and won. If the human-without-dog ran 15:58, she'd run 15:59). But I don't think she is a really fast dog, by any means -- she's a Portuguese Water Dog and her stride looks like a mix between a teeter-totter and a jack-knifing 18-wheeler. I would imagine any dog with a bit more wolf in it could take her down.

Careful SI, Skuj might think you do have a sense of humour afterall.
If the real WR is 18 and change, my guess is that someone from TNF North will own it quickly. It won't be my Newf though, although he does qualify as a real dog.....just ask him!

Are you thinking about pushing your kid in a stroller Skuj? I tried this once, with one of those easy-to-run-with Chariot things. But dammit my lower back was very sore the next day. Change of running posture and all that. My wife can run 2hrs with him, with no subsequent issues with tissues. I'll stick to walking with him, thank you very much.

Some of these types of records are easy enough to break. The hard part is documenting them. Guinness requires a mountain of paperwork, signed statements of authentication from two independent witnesses, video and photo evidence and press clippings. I broke the half-marathon joggling record earlier this year in Montreal, but never bothered to register it because I couldn't be bothered assembling all of the documents.
I'm not sure what the 5k stroller record is, but the half is 1:15 and the full is 2:42.

The one at the front could have easily done it at one time-we are now both too old: The guy who could have done it easily would have been Harvey Mitro. Saw him at the Ontario champs in 1993 and he was running around with a dalmatian or something similar during the meet.

I'm not sure what the 5k stroller record is, but the half is 1:15 and the full is 2:42. I ran a Half at Shawnigan Lake in 2001 in just under 75min, and for a large part of that, a kid in a stroller was right beside me, making faces at me, with his "owner" pacing off me. Not sure how they ended up.

I'm not even sure if I've run a 25 point 200m in a workout.

1:54/3:40? I bet you can go a lot faster than 1:54. And 55.
