This should make for a much more interesting race at Nats this Dec. now that anyone wanting to run the short course must show up.
From Martin Goulet:
Important note: the Canadian Cross Country Championships is not the Trials for the Senior Men Short Course Worlds National XC Team. However for this later category racing at the 2004 National Cross Country Championships will be made compulsory in order to be considered in the Selection Pool (this is new compared to last year). Also, results at the National Cross Country Championships will be considered as one of the element of the Selection Criteria to select athletes from the selection pool.

Seems like a great idea, now National cross will have the best possible field, I doubt it will have much impact on the quality of the team as most will just add this meet to their competition schedule.

This isn't going to have a huge impact on Nats cross. The only difference is that Sully will have to run now. Its almost as this is a "Sully must run rule." No, I don't think this is what Athletics Canada had in mind, I truly believe AC simply wants a deeper field.
Short Course- Sully - did not run nat cross Morrison - Did not run nat cross because of NCAA, he is no longer in the NCAA so he would run anyways now Bourgeois - Ran Nats Hayden - Ran Nats Cantin - Ran Nats Coolsaet - Ran Nats other guys going for short team: Matt Johnston - Ran Nats Alex Hutchinson - Ran Nats Bruno Mazzato - Ran Nats Milne - Ran Nats Brannen - Ran Nats Kerr - Ran Nats Bomba - Ran Nats Deere - Ran NAts McComb - Ran Nats
Now this year McKenzie will run Nats anyways cause he can fit it in his schedule.

True, but last year was an exception and largely due to the fact that AC started putting pressure on the guys to run. Look back a few years when was the last time Schibler ran Nats (i think BC) granted he hasnt been on world xc in a long time. This is only a short term solution as in a few years XC will just have one race, but I think even for milers there is benefits in running XC.
