This afternoon at 3:15pm, Reid skateboarded a 3:49.06 mile at Bishop's High School in Guelph. We measured the asphalt track prior to his attempt and it was exactly 400m. We made sure Reid started 9.34 meters before the 400m start line. He impressively even split his performance in 56.74, 56.64, 57.49, 56.88 and 1.36 sec to the line.
Way to go Reid!!!

it took me awhile to catch on to what exactly the skateboard mile was - wicked time -it'd all be about the turns, sort of have to go a little wide into lane two eh to make the turn and that final straight away, i could just see the digging down
what kind of wheels? maybe some specialty trucks too?

The turns are fine and the track actually has pretty short straight-aways and wide turns, that made it even easier. I have regular 55mm wheels with ABEC-5 bearings (so there's a few seconds I could take off there) and regular Destructo trucks, and its not a long-board. A long-board may be faster but I would never resort to such humiliation. Aerobically it was not too hard but my legs are still hurting a couple days later.

oh the wheels wouldn't be that important, the fate of this attempt obviously lied on the bearings. Without some nice bearings, you are going nowhere fast on a skateboard.

bigger and harder wheels would be faster. One would want wheels as hard as possible before they would start to slip on the track.

Man, I think I could take ya! Just give me some Bones Swiss action and some 60mm wheels and I bust out a 3:45 mile. What do ya say?
