I was a little premature. cisport.ca has only gone to great lengths to ensure that the standards are hard to find on their site, not missing entirely. For all your CIS championship questions (including standards), have a browse through www.cisport.ca/e/play_regs/documents/Track.pdf

And lastly, after a special request to the good web folks at cisport.ca, official standards, plus equivalent off-distance marks, are now available through a direct link on the cisport.ca site at: www.cisport.ca/e/m_track/standards.htm

I am just wondering how many people get to go to CIS nationals for the 1500m and 1000m. What is the max number? I know standard athletes and conference athletes are garenteed, but how many do they put into the race to fill it up.

12 in the 1500 and all other individual events, 10 in the grand.

It's 10 for the 4x8 as well as the km. The other relays are 12 I think...
I'm not sure of the reason, but it might have to do with the number on the track at one time... 600's have heats if I am not mistaken, and the 1500 should be spread out enough I think... I guess the extra two people might cause some extra traffic....
Does anyone know the real reason?

good work Ian, thanks. Moulton: why is that the grand is limited to only 10?? well its a tight race with only one heat. shorter events can have 12 because they have seperate heats. the longer distances can have 12 because longer races spread out more.

They changed the number of entrants of the 1000m and the 4x800m after a couple incidents back in 2000 and 2001. McGill was hosting CIS and in the 1000m guys were running in lane 4 and there was a lot of pushing and shoving until about 600m. In the 4x800 there were 12 teams entered, the first two exchanges were chaotic, there were actually guys getting blocked and knocked. I believe it was Alberta who got bumped out of the race. It was exciting to watch but taking away from the competition. in 2001 it was the same thing at Sherbrooke but it was the home team that DNF'ed.
