these two teams have been great rivals over the past few yerars, both at cross and facing off against each other on the track.
i am kind of biased, but would like to know what other think about these two teams facing off this year.
the 4x800m looks really tight. in their first meeting windsor used savard, ellis, ray and rmac for the victory, over what appeared to be guelph's A-team with armitage , desy, and bourke (i can't remember the fourth). of course, bourke seems to wait a while till really rounding into shape, so how much do the results say?
individually guelph sure seems to have a lot more depth, look at the 1000m ranking at sportingcanada right now, but a solid double by brandon young could ensure windsor hauls in significantly more indiviudual medals in the 600-3000 races. it'll be interesting to see if some guelph individuals step and and grab some medals (desy 1000 or 1500?).
no matter what the outcome, here's to a great season.

After the way UVIC ran this weekend they have to be considered on par if not ahead of Guelph and Windsor, Babiuk 1:52, Kennedy 1:20, Saqui auto in the mile and Henderson "the weak link" only running 1:22. That is a stacked squad. Also Laval looks like they might have the makings of a team with Gill and the great mooner. Toba also will have a good squad, how will Booth's new found leg speed (8:31) transfer to the 4 x 800.

Booth will be running at World Cross so he won't be at CIS. I don't think they'd use Booth anyways. Check out their 800m results from the weekend. Thats early season too... 1:55 1:56 1:56 1:59 Equals about a 7:48 when you add the tenths of a second in...
800 Meter Run 1 Will McComb, Minnesota 1:55.55 H1 2 Chris Hrynkow, Manitoba 1:55.80 H1 3 Sam Jerema, Manitoba 1:56.33 H1 4 Mike VanBeusekom, Unattached 1:56.45 H1 5 Sheldon Kilcullen, Manitoba 1:56.71 H1 6 Andy Dorais, North Dakota 1:57.17 H1 7 Adam Gellerstedt, Minnesota Duluth 1:57.71 H1 8 Eddie Kibira, Unattached 1:58.24 H2 9 Kyle Needham, Unattached 1:59.07 H2 10 Jared Fletcher, Manitoba 1:59.39 H1 11 Todd Johnson, Unattached 1:59.43 H2 12 Alexander Brylev, Msu 2:00.70 H2 13 Joe Woldt, Unattached 2:01.24 H2 14 Mike Yard, Unattached 2:01.31 H1 15 Shawn Williams, Manitoba 2:01.68 H2 16 Matt Sailer, North Dakota 2:05.00 H2

As funny as it would be to see Booth run an 8 sadly he is focusing on other things.

To answer the original question, I think this is a great rivalry, but this year, Windsor will hold the edge. So far this year, guelph got beat like they stole something when Windsor won the OUA Cross title this fall. Now, on the track, I expect things to be a little tighter. For those who doubt the depth of Windsor's 800m runners, doubt away. One thing is for certain though, and thats that Windsor's 4x800m is ALREADY in better shape than it was at CIS last year. This rivalry on the track (and by rivalry, I mean mostly 600m and up, cause really, thats all guelph has) will likely be determined by Bourke's ability to get back into the form he was last year, and the strength of both teams 'middle players' (Guelph-Armitage, Straw, Kozariski, Dunbrack, Macaully...Windsor-Ellis, Bordilau, McGregor, Pye, gosselin, and myself) to step up. The only hard fact is that this letter is mere speculation until OUA's come around. But maybe someone else has another opinion....

I don't think windsor has a fighting chance at defeating guelph in the 4X800m, even if mckenzie does pull off some incredible time. I'm just not very impressed with windsor's remaining three guys (they are some pretty talented, but not great 800m guys). I think with bourke, desormeaux, armitage, macauley, dunbrack ...etc, guelph should dispose with windsor without too much trouble.

As I said before...Windsor isn't a 1 man team. Congrats Lads, great TEAM victory, well deserved. Credit is also due to UVic guys and the guelph guys that made this one hell of a race. highlight of the meet.
