Some times (all right often) I wonder if the people at AC even know anything about track or whether they just throw darts at a board to make decisions. Here is the schedule for Sr Nats
www.athletics.ca/cmslib/general/Schedule%20of%20Events(FINAL-EN).pdf.
Now take note of the mens distance races
Fri
17:55 Mens 15 heats
19:35 Mens 5k heats
thats fair enough although it would make a 15/5k double difficult
Sat
11:20 Mens 3k steeple final
now this is part of the problem, why not have this race in the evening so people can do a 5k/3k s/c double and why would you have a distance race at 11:20 in the morning
11:50 Mens 15
I just dont understand why a country as small as ours doesnt take every effort to allow athletes to double at Nationals, there is only roughly 4 male distance runners who will make the Olympics, so why not move the steeple to saturday night and give people a chance to recover. As well as make the mens 5k the last event and move the 1500 trials up in the day so there is more time to recover between the two.
The womens schedule is actually perfect
fri
18:45 womens 5k
19:15 womens 800
sat
12:35 womens 800 final
16:10 womens 1500 heats
sun
12:45 womens 3k s/c
14:35 womens 1500 final
The only change one could make is to some how move the steeple on sunday so it isn't in the heat. But this allows for all doubles, the 5k runners are done the 5k before the 1500 with nearly 24hrs to recover, the 800 runners have 4 hrs lots of time to recover for "just" heats.
Anyhow I am done ranting.
