After last year when the U of S XC team only got to travel to Edmonton for Golden Bear and a half team to nationals we have set out to raise some more money. The university gives the team a budget of $1,200 which covers our trip to edmonton. Nationals is then added on top of that.

oops...didn't mean to do that...
What I was going to get at is, what kind of fundraisers do other CIS programs have?
Do other programs have a fee for running XC? How much is it? We currently are thinking about putting in a fee of $75 per athlete that can be fundraised away.

The U of T track & field and XC program has done an all night relay the past two years.
This fundraiser includes all levels of the program (i.e. Jr. Development, Varsity and UTTC), and has been fairly successful.
The idea is that instead of paying money out of your own pocket, each athlete fundraises a minimal amount of money. (I know some of the varsity athletes just asked people in their rez if they could give a couple of bucks ... which adds up fairly quickly.) Then athletes run in an all night relay. It takes a little bit of organization, but the payoff can be big.
Good Luck!

At UVic we have a $100 team fee for just training with the team. Then if you make the Varsity team that goes to CIS cross and CanWest Track you have to pay a bit more. I think it's $40. We also sell a large amount of Christmas trees in December. We are, however, a fairly small team compared to UofS, but pretty much any meet in Canada, we are flying to except for the one we host.
I'm new here though this year, so maybe one of the other Vikes can shed some light on the things I don't really understand...
