Time to break the tension with some cash money.
The 3rd annual spring Waterloo beer mile went down tonight, along with the Waterloo beer mile record. Some heated smack talk leading up to the event resulted in the largest field in history. This truly ground breaking event also saw 3 elite b-milers go under the existing Waterloo record. This event proved to be promising, with the first showdown between 3x champ and former record holder Mike Logue and the upstart, fall champ and current record holder Adam Lalonde.
The three favourites immediately jumped ahead, with middle distance runner Adam Lalonde leading the pack. While Logue and Will Gibbons of UWXC fame managed to gain ground on this beer chugging phenom during running portions, Lalonde lead convincingly from start to finish.
Although it looked like there might be a shake up in the backstretch of the last lap, Lalonde cruised to victory in 6:10 and Gibbons retained his legacy of finishing second every time, in 6:14. While disappointed in his placing, Logue also ran a PB of 6:20. Other highlights included a 20-second PB from female Kristie Henry, in 9:23 (4-beer), the first woman in 6th overall. Barely-of-age rookie stud Colin Lawrence also held his own, living up to his own prediction of 4th overall.

Kingston rules were in effect and we thank Queen's alumnus Kevin Beatty and Rob Berg for upholding these high standards (as well as UW alumni Alastair Lawrence). This awesome display proves once again that Waterloo is the beer-miling mecca of Canada and the CIS.
