Thumbs Up For Funding Sport

BC Athlete Voice has launched a campaign today called Thumbs Up For Funding Sport. With the one month countdown to opening ceremonies we stand to face a budget cut in the sport sector of roughly 50% from our 2008/09 levels after Jacques Rogge officially closes teh 2010 Games.

Calling all BC Athletes...

Please respond to the call to action. This is a really critical time for sport funding as the Ministry Service Plan is calling for significant cuts next fiscal.

Please take the time to send an E-Card (30 seconds) and become a fan on our facebook site. In fact encourage all your friends and relatives to do the same. Send it to your club president and ask them to circulate it to all members.

The next request is that we need some people to send some actual letters to the Premier. The key messaging is as follows:

-Thank you for the great support (government has been very generous and the whole campaign is intended to be positive)

-Applaud their investment in sport over the last few years.

-Say why sport matters to you.

-Ask government to reconsider the 2010/11 funding levels as outlined in the Service Plan

-The 2010 Games promises to turn lots of children and youth on to a lifetime of sport and physical activity. We need a strong and well funded sport system to ensure that the children of 2010 can follow their dreams from playground to podium
