Guess that's what happens when it becomes recognized by the IAAF.

Cheaters come out when there is money involved.

They get tested/caught once it becomes recognized by the IAAF.

Yeah this is pretty disappointing, though the cynic in me says it means we have arrived as a sport. I am not surprised it is an Italian as the sport is very big there, the pressures would be much higher than here.

To clarify though, the IAAF has always been involved. This year the event was changed from Trophy Race to Championship, but it is still the World Mountain Running Association Championship, not the IAAF World Mountain Running Championship. A pretty slight difference, but it is not quite at the same level as World Cross Country.
