Just wondering why these talented fellas didn't do the PEC marathon as a training race instead of the Toad and pick up the $1500 for 1st, $1000 for 2nd, etc. Instead a group of Kenyans swept the podium.
I thought Ultra's were what you did when you retired from competitive running?

I grabbed these guys for a shot just moments after Taylor finished his 50 km.

Anyone who has met George and Peggy Sarson would know exactly why the guys ran at The Run For The Toad, they are two of the kindest people in the world and are great ambassadors for the sport.

I thought Ultra's were what you did when you retired from competitive running? Anyone who has ever met George and Peggy Sarson, the organizers of this race, could easily answer this question. Not only do they put on an amazing race, but they continuously give back to the running community and are just a pleasure to be around. The Toad sells out half a year in advance for good reason, and there are often waiting lists just to volunteer. I personally have helped volunteer for one of their pre-race training runs, and was thoroughly impressed by the effort they even put into that. I know both my parents raced this year just because they enjoy the race so much. Edit: Apparently I was beat to the punch on this one...goes to show though.

Very well said. George and Peggy are a real class act. Not only at the Toad, but as others have mentioned in the running community in general.

I thought Ultra's were what you did when you retired from competitive running? Dave, So ultra running isn't competitive??? Maybe you should tell that to Uli, Carpenter, Roes, Skaggs, Krupicka, Parr, etc..... Or better yet, give one a try yourself

I thought Ultra's were what you did when you retired from competitive running? For me a 25km trail run is a much better training run than a marathon for the upcoming XC season. And, of course, George and Peggy put on a great event so it's a lot of fun. And for the record, cherry picking marathons for prize money is what you do when you're done competitive running.
