...the quest for the fastest b-mile.

HUGE (dare I say legendary) race last night at the newly-crowned provincial championships. Results will be forthcoming.

Congrats Mike, that was without a doubt the most impressive run I have ever seen in my life.
What an impressive way to finish of a great university career.

Thanks guys... we're thinking of starting a semi-pro circuit.

Madm = Nigel? Where did you get to after the race Alex?

Ummm... training is still evolving... Once the season ends I usually ease up on the running and start up on the drinking and eating, to increase the tolerance and the stomach volume. We've been moving away from separate running and drinking training, and do some quick intervals followed by chugging to get the feel of drinking while out of breath. We've also done a few endurance "beer runs" where we make pit stops on a regular off-day run and pound. Of course, we still do plenty of just plain chugoffs, and have experimented with using club soda when we need to stay sober.

Haha, I went to drown my sorrows after my pitiful attempt at a beermile. Long story, best not told on a messageboard.
At least I did learn the dangers of mixing drinking and maple syrup festivals. haha
And I was just happy to be there and watch a pro at work.
When are the full reults coming out?
I'm beating you by one total post on here.
A race for the first to 200?

HAHA... Mullet B Miler has taken the sport of bmiling to a whole new level. Although I'm a little worried he may end up in AA after the past 2 weeks of training. Thankfully Club Soda and Choose Up as substitutes may have prevented this.

A little aside... his run wasn't even on a fast track. I bet the track cost him at least 10 seconds. He'd get under 5:40 on a fast track for sure. Plus it was windy so I wouldn't rule out 5:30 in perfect conditions.

Scotty, under those assumptions about the resurrection track I would definately have been sub 15 on a fast track.

From 17:50 to sub-15 Hutch, you sure? JK... Thanks to you, Cleve and Moults for making it. One of the funniest lines that we caught clearly on the video was "Hey Sally, hurry the fuck up, I want to go home."

Does anyone know Dan Michaluk or Sean Wade? As suggested to me, I'd love to race them at this event! Results coming soon I promise!

This past Saturday, elite and extensive self-destruction and debauchery wreaked itself upon a black oval deep in the heart of south-western Ontario.

In the weeks heading up to the 5th annual spring KW BM, talk and invitations spread like wildfire. It came to a point where every Ontario institution and contender worth its running salt received news of the impending apocalypse. There was no choice but to crown the event the provincial championships… or perhaps the worlds?

This race was also dubbed the retirement party for one Mullet B. Miler, due to his varsity graduation. Much like the fall edition where he took gold but fell short of the record, this mullet had big plans and made it no secret: Sub-6 or broke. Many others issued threats, but only a few had the ability to push the tight short-long.

One such contender, HutchEZ of the home team, made a statement very early, taking the first lead with a commanding 9 second beer. His lead did not last long as the long-maned crooked-neck blasted off a 60s first quarter. The two top dawgs continued to trade leads like this in exciting fashion, as per their individual specialization, until the final intervals. The last beer was slammed back convincingly by both heavy weights, and they emerged from the fourth and final exchange zone in unison for the first time. This is when the muleteer™ maximized his running advantage, and pulled away to yet another BM title.

This title was the sweetest of all though, as the mullet crossed the line in a meet record of 5:54.9. The most daunting of beer mile barriers had been shattered by over 5 seconds, as he posted a 10 second personal best. Pending approval, the mullet becomes the 7th fastest b-miler of all-time. Not to be outdone, HutchEZ crossed the line a mere stroke past the barrier, under the previous record and in a new PB of 6:01.7. This was sweet vengeance for Hutch, who’s ego had taken a beating in the traditional predictions leading up to the race.

A record number of participants followed Mullet B. Miler and HutchEZ to b-mile stardom. 47 participants squeezed themselves onto the 8 lanes, of which 36 legitimately finished. The first of which was former champ and recent long distance convert Adam:L, who made the pilgrimage to represent Northern Ontario and was rewarded with the bronze. As a result, Adam bumped Scott the Snake out of the medals for virtually the first time all year. Despite less time to prepare for the event due to international commitments, the Snake nearly struck, closing in with a PB of 6:39 behind Adam’s 6:37. Rounding out the top-6 B-milers were Caw-lon with a huge PB of 7:05, followed by a tnfnorth founding father in 7:30.

In the next overall position was another meet record, as Ken McA destroyed 2 litres of chocolate milk and a mile in 7:37. This acceptable non-alcoholic derivative to the b-mile is not only getting faster but growing exponentially in participation.

The women’s race featured a return to respectability for KW women. BM rookie Katie took training to heart and crushed the previous meet record of 9:23. Her time of 8:50 has even more merit considering she moved up to 4-beer, and was the only female to do so.

Every record conceivable appears to have been smashed: Mens and womens records, milk mile record, participation records. Will beer miling ever be the same again with our provincial hosts? Will today’s hero return to one day run and drink 4-beer again? Only time will tell…

Quite possibly one of the best posts of all-time. Well done Logue (on the sub-6 and the post)...

I'm disappointed that I was not there to witness the event. Our own beer mile pared in comparison as the Campus Police came down in full force only minutes before the gun....

Alex - I was close to posting just to tell you that your idea to race to 200 posts is pretty stupid, and then I went and replied to myself 3 times in this thread, haha.

Little - Thanks for the props. It was such a huge race, I was a little surprised it didn't have the same fate as your race. You're back at Mac next year right? If so, we should hook one up.

Also thought I would throw out the idea mentioned on trackie of national beer mile rankings (I swear this wasn't my idea). What do people think?

Someone mentioned Dan Michaluk? Still Canadian record holder in the beer mile.

He unfortunately has retired from his beer-miling career. There was an attempt to coax him to do a beer mile this past weekend at his stag - although this was a very fleeting attempt.

Here's an interesting note. Dan will marry Seanna Robinson next weekend in North Carolina. Seanna is (still) the female Canadian record holder in the beer mile. Ahhhh...a union forged by beer miling.

Ya Jimbo was a great beermiler. I went head to head with him a few times and he will actually crush the beer can to get the beer to come out faster. He can easily put all of his beers back in less than 5sec and then just churns out nice easy 80+second laps.
I on the other hand can't chug to save my life and ran
my ass off while he made it look so easy.

I'm pretty sure it was yet a third Jim (Finlayson) that ran super fast recently out west. I can't imagine that much dark heavy beer put in my gut so quickly and still running so fast. Anything warm and not dark was my choice.
Well plus 2 Big Macs and a six pack as my warm up.

Yeah the run out West you are thinking about was by Jim Finlayson. It was discussed on this board:
http://tnfnorth.proboards70.com/index.cg....35148686&page=1
I would also love to see him run a time with standard cans (since Guinness bottles are less volume and alcohol %).

That really is too bad Dan Michaluk didn't take a victory lap recently! Just as an FYI, according to beermile.com, the world record was run in Canada. That would be Sean Wade who ran 5:40 in Hamilton in 1997 (which is kinda weird since there are no other results from his race and he only has one time up there - the WR). Does anyone know anything about this Wade guy? Michaluk's best time currently sits 3rd all-time, but he is by far the most accomplished beermiler out there, with official times at #3, #5, #7, #8, #12, #14, #17, #17, #24, #25 and on and on.
http://www.beermile.com/records/ref_wr

As for Moulton's comment, I think the idea behind Canadian beer mile rankings is that beermile.com is not specifically Canadian, and has strict requirements to have times count (video evidence for sub-7).

Sean Wade is a New Zealand born marathoner with a pb of about 2:10 that went to Rice University and still lives in Texas (correct me if I'm wrong). I wasn't there but I believe he was up for a race - perhaps the Elite 4miler? and being a good All Black needed a few beers afterwards and was intrigued by the thought of a beer mile.
Wardle - who just noticed that his pb from Windsor is not on beermile.com

OK I didn't know that about Wade. Michaluk is definitely the Canadian record holder then. Sounds like Hamilton was quite the hotspot for beer miling in the mid-late 90's. Plenty of Michaluk's times were from the Hammer.
