Why even bother finishing when you're that far behind?

From a secret location deep within the heart of Southwestern Ontario’s tri-cities, the “Syracuse Invitational” went down and further cemented K-W as a b-mile force of international calibre.

On a day that brought less than ideal conditions of fog, precipitation, and cold, a new event record was established. The heated yet friendly rivalry between the two front-running former champs resulted in the closest and fastest finish in event history. In a photo finish, reversal of former fortunes, and twist of irony, the now-coldnecked mulleteer™ outleaned his long-maned adversary by a hair. Neck and neck heading into their last lap, the XC and MD specialists ripped off 60sec quarters en route to b-mile glory.

The beverage of choice for the ground breakers was LGD. Props to Scoot for medaling, Colin for a 57 penalty lap & bringing the excuses (as predicted), MattS for backing up the smack with a solid debut, and to Kevin for a large PB thanks to a practice night with the champs.

KWBM Fall ’04 results:

1. Mulleteer (reclaims the throne) 6:04.9 * new record, PB
2. Adam:L (defending champ) 6:04.9 * breaks former record, PB
3. Scoot (The new A-C) 7:07 * PB
4. MattS (running his mouth) 7:54 * rookie, PB
5. Mark:L (short-shorts) 7:57
6. Kev (triathlete finally steps up) 7:58 * PB
7. Dustin (DD peaked nicely) 8:20 * PB
8. Chuck (Kev’s buddy) 8:40 * rookie
9. Colin:L (pitiful) 9:23 * Penalty lap (57sec)
10. Val (female) 9:49
11. Chris/Taylor (random/Matt’s pal) 11:22 * Penalty lap, rookie
12. Dave (ditto, Mark’s friend) 11:31
13. Gina (veteran) 13:21 * Penalty lap, PB
14. Ian (no comment) 15:31 * Penalty lap, PB

Let's get some BC results.

unfortuatly the ubc beer mile..being the first annual one...was very unorganized and the event was carried out on a very uneven dirt track with no lighting at all, thus making it hard to record times....the event was videotaped but since there was no light all you could hear was the various baairfing and beer chugging noises..

the only time i know for sure was the winner who was NIck Elson who had a very solid run in 6 27

there was about 18 ppl competeting and about 8 of them were girls whihc was very surprising ...the first girl was around 11 min i think

myself "MoTits" stunk it up very badly in 15min and had almost all the girls beat me...i was very proud of my 59 sec last lap though and the fact that i didnt baaairf at all...

hopeuflly the second annual ubc beer mile will be at a lighted track and times can be more accuratly recorded.

Well I have to say that is one damn competitive beer mile. My 20:01 time obviously needs some work.....
Limited results are the following
1. Elson 6:27 no competition, rookie
2. Maw 7:50ish
everyone and their grandma 9-14 min
15thish Motits 15ish
17. Hot Kimmy
DFL Schnopps(baarrrgh. i am an unattractive man)- with well earned penalty lap after 3 solid minutes projectile vomit which was all filmed.

Pretty weak sauce that between 5-7 spectators, an unofficial cameraman and 18 beer milers that we can't put together a decent set of results...

Wow that's pretty impressive!!!
It must of been that practice session over the summer that helped pull off the W on that night.

Thanks Alex. It wasn't electric timing though, so we'll round it up to 6:05. I just left the decimals to show how close the finish was.

Windsor usually hosts an event too - have you gotten your first taste yet? Results?

You should be able to get one off the ground in the 'shwa some day. Are you around over Xmas? Maybe we can get some runs in.

ya there's some uncertainty about ours with the new track being built finding a venue is tough.
I have been practicing a lot since I got down here. Have a good training partner. I've gotta go out and do some more "training" tonight.
Ya I'm home on the 21st. I'll give you a call sometime after I get in to go for a run.
