Very nice, champ. Thanks for sharing.
Simon says he thinks it will be fast running in Seoul...

Champ, I could be wrong, but the way I read it:

Women's Race starts on Saturday @ 10:00 am in Seoul, which is 6:00 pm Friday in Cowichan Bay (:), and 9:00 pm Friday in Toronto. So, that's like tonight - anybody want to do a double check on that?
Men's Race starts on Saturday @ 1:00 pm in Seoul, which is 9:00 pm Friday on the West Coast and Midnight in Toronto... (Actually Midnight in Montgomery by Alan Jackson is a great song - small aside there).
Live coverage on Bold, and at CBCSports.ca and Triathlon.org.
Taped highlights on CBC on Saturday ---- looks like 11:30 am in the West, and 2:30 EST.
Simon Whitfield is the only Canadian in either race, and the Men's Field is loaded, with almost everyone there, except Brownlee, who is still injured.....

GO SIMON GO ------------------ OTFP !!!!!!!! :)

Yep, it's a 16 hour difference to PDT. Kind of hard to get your head around.

Is it actually in Seoul or is it outside the city? Because the only real big body of water is the Han River and I don't know how safe I'd feel swimming there... (hopefully they can ride alongside it on those bike trails though cause that has some nice views provided visibility is good enough to see across to the other side).

Yep, Han River Park is the race headquarters, so I guess that is where the swim will be. Seoul, with a population of over 10 million, is the largest city to host an ITU event this year.
It will be interesting to see how large the crowds are --- maybe a million, at one spot or another along the course? What a huge event ---- go Whitfield !
What an evening on the Tube ---- Simon Whitfield (and a great women's field also, but with no Canadian content), Steve Nash and the Suns, the Canucks.... Wow, fill the fridge with cold ones, and make sure the batteries in the remote control are current...That's the plan...

Just checked with Simon's agent and CBC TV is not showing Simon's race until next Sat, May 15. The women's race will be this Sat. even though no Canadians are in it.

With full respect, Champ., I think you are confusing the issue, and the readers...
Simon's race will be on Bold TV, and Triathlon.Org, and CBC Sports.ca, starting in about
1 hour and 45 minutes, that is 9:00 pm Friday - Pacific, and midnight - Eastern...
Why anyone would wait for a week or so, or even an hour or so to watch this, I have no idea....

Tough breaks for Simon in Seoul. Great swim, right with the guys early in the bike, then had a flat tire. Had to ride it out for a couple of K. to the bike area. Somehow got back with the lead pack going into the run, and then suffered a muscle cramp early in the run, and had to DNF. I'm guessing the extra effort on the bike to catch back up to the lead pack may have strained him a bit too much. Sounds like he's good and fit though, and might as well get rid of the bad luck early in the season !

Simon's race report (from his website)

Saturday, May 08, 2010
PG race report.

I'll just cut and paste what I wrote to coach Paulo. minus the profanity.....

F

flatted at far turn around. rode flat to wheel change (1/2lap, lots of "ahhhh kazuntight I'm about to crash!!!"), changed it, charged back up. tried to recover when I finally got back to main group but bike was very hard. Kurt was great, very encouraging, systematic and specific with his road side instructions, very good.

positioned myself well going into transition until of course I .......flatted AGAIN!!! WTF.

cramped in right hamstring taking my right shoe off... sign of things to come.

ran well at first, thought "I'm going to smash this".

cramped in right leg, then really cramped, then spazzing right hip flexor then hopping. then game over. limped home.

hate the DNF, really hate having to tell the story over and over cause people just stare at you thinking "I don't really care, I was just being polite.... ha".

damn it.

back to work monday.

oh and BTW great start, swam well but faded a bit. top 10 out of water.

biked really well, have power file. have to say that the groups I passed when chasing... I felt like apologizing for waking them up, thank goodness the Portuguese guy and Foster from USA woke up and eventually joined me.

oh wow I'm hungry, just started sweating like crazy, not sure why. just sitting here typing.

Korean BBQ here I come.

Wow ! I hope some of you were able to catch that coverage, and I look forward to seeing that coverage of Simon's race next Saturday, at 11:30 am Pacific.
That was about as good coverage and commentary as I have ever seen or heard. Absolutely brilliant ! Steve Armitage was in my high school graduating class, so I have known him since about 1962. Because "A" is just before "B" in the alphabet, and a lot of the class seating arrangements were done in alphabetical order in those days, Steve usually sat right in front of me in our Grade 12 year. Anyways, wonderful job of covering endurance sport properly.
Well done CBC and ITU.
