The 401 Series is a collaboration between the University of Windsor, London Runner Distance Club and Speed River TFC to create opportunities to run fast during what is otherwise a fairly empty period for non-high-school athletes.
The locations, meets, dates and events:
Windsor Open T&F Meet, May 29th Windsor Stadium 800m, 1500m, 3000ms/c, 5000m(m) (speed/power events also offered)
RCLDS #2 – The Kick-Off, June 2nd Price-Waterhouse Stadium, London 800m, 3000m
Speed River Mid-d Inferno, June 5th St James Track 600m, 1500m (w), mile (m) (LJ also)
All results FAT. Prizes will be modest; the purpose is speed. Races and fields will be set up to run fast. The goal is to get some Ontario-based events where athletes can hammer. We've got good out-of-province interest already.
I’ll follow up with more details about contacts, directions, entry protocol, accommodation options etc.

Are these races strictly high performance (ie a time standard) or completely open?

They are open. We'll be pulling together the best fields we can and running timed sections.

Although I'm no longer in Ontario, I've raced at least one meet in all 3 of these series before, and all of them have been very well organized and great events. I think it's great to see some collaboration between the 3 to great a solid series.

Very nice, DST ! We fired up some High Performance/Road to the Olympics Twilite Meets in B.C. during the early 1980's. And I think we literally said, in writing, don't show up if you just want to sit and kick and win your section in a slow time.... The emphasis was in getting out, and giving it a go, and the results followed. I think we had 17 guys run under 14 for 5K. one evening....No pre-entry, just show up, fill out your entry card, warmup, and run like hell !!! Ken Elmer got into it at that point, and thus the Sun Run, the Harry Jerome, the TC 10K, the Victoria International, and many other International level meets in B.C. - in Prince George, and Kamloops, and Kelowna, and Port Alberni, and Richmond, and New Westminster, and Abbotsford, and others I may have missed... Nike used to fund some of their athletes not only from Eugene, but from the Eastern USA, just to run in these "Allcomers Meets"...

Yes, the London 10,000m is May 15th (1,500m as well): www.londonrunner.ca/page.php?content=RCLDSand 1,500m Night (June 25) are confirmed. Just waiting to confirm 4 other dates including the above and I'll get information out. As stated earlier, it's really nice to be able to collaborate and we're excited to work with the University of Windsor/Speed River crews to build up a solid annual series.

Steve is waiting for confirmation of the date and we'll get it out to you as soon as he knows. There should be a series web-site up and running in the next couple days. Fields are looking quite good so far, and we're starting to pick up interest from south of the border. The steeple-chases in Windsor are shaping up extremely well. 1500m/mile fields for both Windsor and Guelph are hot.

Our website is now available at www.401series.ca/We are also going to launch a series entry fee. For $40 you can enter all three meets, to take advantage of this entry fee you need to email the events you would like to run along with your best performances in those events to cmoulton@uoguelph.ca by Friday May 21st at 6:00 pm. Fields are shaping up extremely well for all three meets.
